Chains, Brakes and bicycle shops

Popped in to the lbs last nite to get a new chain, came out with a KMC 9.93, i'd never heard of them before but a quick google and it seems i've made a good chice, they get great reviews. Was a doodle to fit with the missing link connector and does seem a lot better at shifting than my old shimano chain.
Whilst in the shop i asked about slx disc brakes and was told that in july a new version is coming out. The new version has levers almost identical to the xt/xtr version and the calipers look much nicer and for £89 an end seems like bloody good value.
Finally the shop itself, Cycle kingdom in Fleet. I've bought a few bits and bobs in there recently while building up a new bike. I highly recomend it, The staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable and more than happy to give advice.

Sounds like you have struck cycling gold! Sadly the same can't be said here in Birmingham. Birmingham city cycles would seem to have closed down, leaving us with halfords, evans, and what would appear to be a giant/trek concept store in near identical layout to a specialized concept store three doors away. Evans being the only one I have received nothing approaching good service from
My local mobile bike repairer takes some beating...
"You need a new cassette, chain and rear derailleur, but I'd buy them online, you'll get them cheaper than I can."
Took the bike and new components to him this morning as he was doing a servicing day at a nearby office. Charged me £10 to fit them and adjust everything.

How's this for service, my local bike shop/repairers main man lives at the bottom of my road. I had a couple of wheeels serviced recently and he picked them up and dropped them off from my house. Even brought around a card machine in case I was paying by card. Top stuff and he will continue to get my custom, even recommended a couple of friends to him. Compare that to those Halfords bods !!
