I go there quite regularly, I don't live far away and if its a nice weekend I often hit the lakes. What sort of a place were you looking for, theres alot of choice restaurant wise in Windermere.

Only 'posh' place we went when we were in the lakes is this place: http://www.theglasshouserestaurant.co.uk/

Although its in Ambleside, a short taxi ride away.

Theres another "posh" place called the Log House in Amleside (about 5-10 minutes up the road) that does really nice food, theres a nice pub by the yachting marina in Windermere called The Ship Inn.

Was going to suggest that. Went for lunch about a month ago and it was very nice indeed. Ambleside itself is lovely too.

Glasshouse looks good, what was the food like?

Must admit i am getting more fussy with food in my old age and the mrs is quite a foodie.

Think might do cedar house first night there and then the glasshouse?

Food was great, wasn't stupidly small portions. Great selection of wine.

Wasn't too la-de-dar, but enough for us to feel like it was a treat on holiday. Seem to remember the bill just under £100, but we didn't go all out, and that was just 1 bottle between us.

I'd go for the Log House every time; its always been fantastic when we've been. Haven't been to the Glass house in years, though it can only have gotten better after its appearance on kitchen nightmares or what ever Ramsey's tv show is called...

Have some family who have a property up there and eat there regularly.. I believe it's pretty awesome. Was featured in Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon's "The Trip" but should still be well in budget smile

went 12 months ago- very good- quite restauranty but didn't mine Mrs Pugwash and i turning up with walking boots, mud and dog, which was nice. Would be THE perfect place to while away a wet cold afternoon in front of the fire.

They have a pub side and a restaurant side. We were a little disappointed to be honest, nothing wrong with it but not quite what we were expecting.

Surprised no one has suggested here http://www.lenclume.co.uk/restaurant.html pushes the budget a bit but supposed to be very good indeed.

Why not get yourself a tastecard http://www.tastecard.co.uk/
It shows all the resturants where you can get 241 or 50% off meals.

Used to live in Bowness, so a couple of these were our staple 'visits'
