personalised plate retention v750 - cost??
Discussion
Afternoon all, a little unclear with regards to plate retention rules
I bought a private plate last year but its not assigned to a car, expiry is in a few weeks and I will be extending the retention, the internet company I purchased the plate from are requesting 82 pounds. My understanding was that DVLA charge 25 pounds as an annual retention fee - can I get away with paying this direct to the DVLA??
Also do I technically not own the plate, the 'purchaser' on the v750 is the internet company, and my name is down as 'nominee', any help greatly appreciated!

The fee should initially be £25 + £80 which covers the transfer fee when you eventually decide to put it on to another vehicle. If you go over the year you just pay a further £25 (or whatever the rate may go up to).
Being the nominee means you have the full rights to the plate - it is to cover the situation where someone buys the plate as a gift for someone else.

Nope - nominee gives you no rights, only that you can put it on your car. The Grantee (in this case the regplate company) has the full rights to the registration. It would be cheaper to assign it to a car, any car, and then transfer it to another vehicle at a later date!Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
