Le Mans Peeves

Don’t get me wrong, I love it. The racing this year made up for quiet diesels. Still can’t quite believe how close it got.
But….
(bearing in mind I'm being miserable, hating being back at work and still vaguely hung over) -
The drivers parade.
Why does it take so long to get the cars through - I seem to remember them all coming through much quicker before. Also what's with the Harleys?
The showing off.
OK, so we sticker our car up. We cruise around loving it. But the Dutch lads all dressed up in orange + clogs + trolley with a siren on walking down the side of the pit when it was open. What's the point? Also how much money do some of these people spend on fireworks? Baffling.
Radio Le Mans.
Thanks for putting me off Lola with that long crawling a55kissing interview with the resolutely smug Martin Birrane. I know you've got to make a few quid out of this but I think you need to vet your contributors a bit better. Also is it just me or does John Hindhaugh seem to lose the plot after about 8 hours. It was much better when he was getting some sleep on the Sunday morning. Shame he's the boss as I think he could do with his slice of the commentary being reduced.
Party vs Racing.
Probably linked to the showing off thing but seriously - do they all live in night clubs or something? One pitch about 50 yards away was bouncing the sides of my tent. How the hell does anyone in that vicinity manage to sleep? And they want to be there!
The moaning about chavs/gendarmes.
I think the police are pretty fair. They just want you to not act like a t1t, turn up in a vaguely roadworthy car and not drive around pi55ed. Seems pretty reasonable to me. There was a roadblock early on the Thursday/Friday am on the back road to Arnage. They were pulling both French and non French cars over to be breathalised and actually impounded a French scooter. I can’t imagine the policing for the event comes for free so so what if we add a bit to the coffers on the way there and back for breaking the law.
Friday night has always been bad. It just depends what time you got there and whether or not you're in the spirit of things. There were always innocents drawn into it (and it made my blood boil) but if anything I see it getting better each year. Did I imagine it or was there actually security down by Houx and beyond?
On the whole though, things seem to be on the up with a marked improvement year on year in things like factilities; the shocking reduction on Churros stands this year aside.
