Hi all, me and a couple of mates fancy a hoon around London town this evening, just for the hell of it! Does anyone have any ideas as to a good route we could take, maybe passing a few sights, any tunnels(!) etc.?
We've got about 2 - 3 hours to kill and will be starting off from Dagenham. driving

Cheers in advance!!

Driving along the embankment is nice, loads of sites to see, you have the blackwall tunnel near greenwich! Unfortunately from my experiences of driving around london at night, there's lots of speed cameras, average speed cameras, traffic, and a quite a high presence of police, especially in the city!

If its a casual drive around the london sites then not a bad idea...a hoon probably best to stick to the country b-roads!

Edit to add: only last week I was pulled over for using a 'little' bit too much throttle at the lights! I got told off, but I think the stresses of the day were showing and I was told to chill out!

Well, you have the Blackwall Tunnel and the Rotherhithe Tunnel - both easy access from Dagenham. However, be prepared to spend your free 2-3 hours in both.

Get yourself over to the ftooc.org site and search for london tunnel run and the whole route for the last one is on the thread.

Not quite starting in dagenham but some great sites and tunnels that can be seen at night in london.

FYI...
Blackwall Tunnel is closed southbound and 20mph ave speed check northbound after 9pm-5am Sun-Thurs for repairs.

From 'Nam, A13 into Central London gives you the Limehouse link at least, 30mph with the 3 Gatso's, one in the very start, very end and in the middle. On the exit to the Limehouse Link, take a right, then another right, and another right and ur at the Rotherhithe Tunnel...20mph but only one Gatso at the entrance I think, plus u can just turn round at the island on the South side and go straight back through, but as Blackwall Tunnel shut southbound, Rotherhithe gets busy.

Only a couple of other tunnel in Central London that I know of, one along Lower Thames St which is more a long underpass but is ont he main drag in to town and leads straight to Big Ben and Parliament Sq and another northbound only tunnel from Waterloo Bridge to Covent Garden, but as there's been a big building fire right at Aldwych, not sure if it will be open fully.

The A1020 around city airport & exCel is quite good fun rather than coming in on the A13. Some nice straight bits with roundabouts, not much to see though. Follow it towards the City and you will come in via Canary Wharf.

Watch out for plod though.

Think it known as the Beckton Speedway locally....

I find this website very handy....

http://www.londontraffic.org/

and Waterloo Bridge is currently shut...therefore so is the tunnel on the north end....
