gearbox linkage just broke

Linkage on my Chim 400 gearbox just broke....
Am about 20 miles from home, just want to know is it safe to drive back home???

I can still select the gears, but the gear lever has a really long travel...

Please help!!

If it is the external linkage for the gearstick, you should be okay. If the linkage, or selector has broken internally then I would not drive it or even start the engine. You could end up with loose components inside the gearbox flying around and wrecking the entire box. Remember, even with the car out of gear, some internal shafts are still spinning around at idle speed!
