I hope so as your Tiv would be rather slow without, on the upside your insurance premiums would be pretty good!

Anyway, my question is ....for an S2, does anyone have either a fabulous bog standard 2.9 V6 lump with low mileage that they may wish to sell following an engine upgrade?

Or.... do you have a sound unit for reconditioning that you are fed up with tripping over in the garage?

I would be happy to pay a good price for the former or help you clear space (and a pint or two of course) for the latter.

gbgaffer had his old one for sale in Jan but he's not responding to e-mail at the moment. Having said that I would imagine it has been sold after all this time!

Cheers,
Kevin

Bit harsh Kevin old chap, you emailed at 15:09 and I responded at 17:29 - not all of us spend our lives sitting in front of a computer you know.

Hope you find a motor soon, if it helps there is one on the XROC site http://interford.co.uk/parts/showads.php?catid=4

Cheers

What about a standard Granada engine? Available in a scrapyard near you... ok you have to change the manifolds over, the alternator bracket etc etc but the basic engine is the same.

I might be able to help you out here, I will probably be pulling the engine out of my blue S2 and replacing it with the one from my green S2 (nothing wrong with it, it's just the engine from my green car is modified a bit so I will keep that one)

Send me an email and we can have a chat about it

Cheers

Hi Graham,

Sorry my message wasn't meant to be taken that way (that's the trouble with electronic messaging).

I hope I didn't cause offence!

Thanks for the link, it's a shame that I wasn't looking when you sold yours as it was a low mileage unit.

Someone else suggested looking for a Granada unit but I have previously been told that the V6 in the Tiv is not as Uncle Henry finished but upgraded a little but that could just be a load of old

I do hope the gifs I typed in commands for work properly or this message will appear really weird!

As an ex-Granada owner, I am sure that the engines are exactly the same, as they leave the factory. The TVR gets more power solely from the exhaust design, which has less back-pressure. I think.

Well that does sound more promising. I didn't really want to go for the standard Ford engine if it was inferior to the units used in the S.

I should even be able to pick up a recon unit (or even have fitted) from exchange and mart, there are usually a few engine reconditioners listed. I'll have to make sure that they use all my new parts that I have fitted over the last few months - such as alternator and water pump and sensors on the EFi.

Shouldn't be a difficult job as access is easy with bonnet removed on the S, unfortunately it's a bit difficult for me to do this myself at home.

That would tally - Austec are replacing my engine shortly, there are a few minor changes from the Granada but nothing spectacular (like boring out the chambers or something like that). They're incredibly busy down there but if you give them a ring they may be able to give you a few quick pointers to the differences - they're very friendly and helpful people. Alternatively - you could get them to do it for you !
