Recommend me a BBQ!
Discussion
Well our old half barrel BBQ has finally been killed by rust
After reading the BBQ sticky thread, I have decided that I want one with a lid (smoker?) as I want to try some of the recipes
So what is the best cheap (Ideally less than 50 sheets) BBQ that I could use for some of these recipes? I see that Tesco do one for £20 but it does not have a temperature gauge so could that potentially cause issues?
Thanks for any help

i think so - but if you think you'd kill one of those by rust, you'd better think again
ours is 10 years old and still in excellent condition - so an extra £50 or so now isn't really that much, if you think it will last many, many years. and did i mention they give excellent results - very easily?

Got one of these for our student house the other week. Seemed to work well enough for the couple of BBQs we've done on it. For £20, it's well built enough and with regards to the temperature gauge, I'd be inclined to drill a hole in the top and fit one of these. Worth a risk for £25 all in?SVX said:
More expensive than the Webber I got the Weber package from Argos a few weeks ago, 47cm BBQ, set of 3 tools, rain cover and a bag of briquettes for 88 quid.

I'd recommend Webber every time. Great BBQ, use it as a grill, oven, smoker etc.
I highly recommend the Webber cookbook as well. Only £12

Great recipes, and excellent tips on BBQ'ing
Buy a genuine webber, but aftermarket accesories, the webber accesories are very expensive. Needs to be a 57cm so you can easily do beer can chicken etc.

Not sure what make mine is but it is stainless steel, I was fed up of the tin worm eating the others. Bought it more than ten years ago. The plinth the bowl sits on is a chimney so you can open the vent and it draws up through the bottom a treat, shut the vent and it just ticks over. Only mod I have made is to prevent the ash clogging the air way through the bottom.

You'd only regret it. Get a 57cm Weber and never look back. You can get a couple of beer-can chickens in one (maybe 3) and/or proper big joints for slow cooking, or you can do quick burgers and sossies etc.At half price?

Personally, I bought the 47cm Weber, and very much regret not getting the bigger one! The 47cm is fabulous and all I crave is a little more space. So the 57cm would be perfect.

But a 57cm Weber is at least three times the price.
£100 v £30, 3+ times yes but £70 extra isn't that much. I'll bet the surprise will be how much it gets used and if it doesn't it will last for years and years. A small cheap BBQ is more likely to lead to less use as it's not so good.Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
