Cheapest new motoring..?

Has no doubt been asked before so apologies! 
For some time I've been running my Corrado VR6 as my daily. I'm getting a bit fed up of new and exciting problems appearing when I'm depending on the car, and truthfully am also fed up of watching it slowly degrade in terms of condition when subjected to supermarket carparks, etc.
Rather than buying another "snotter" (as I have run snotters in the past) I'd quite like something new but about as cheap to buy / lease / insure / fuel / tax as is possible.
Just wondered what other new cars folks run, and who pays the least amount possible? Realistically I'd be looking for finance or a lease deal if I was to go ahead rather than buying outright..

I did this for a while and leased before going self-employed. I worked out that the best thing to do was to simply choose cars depending on what the best deals were at the time. For various reasons manufacturers sometimes have certain models on lease very cheaply. This can be due to overstock, or an old model, or often a new model that they want to get on the road so people see them. Had some truly stunning deals - Subaru Legacy 3.0 for £200 a month + VAT, Alfa 159 for £240, got missus a Renault Megane CC for £120 a month once too (Renault were really desperate then). Never did more than 2 years for each one, and was only 10k miles a year though.

As I say, be open-minded on what to lease - most leases are very expensive compared to new or nearly-new, especially if you want a particular car or spec. But there are some stonking bargains out there if you do enough searching or are patient.

Kia Picanto for £130 odd a month...
Pretty much what mikefacel said. Phone or visit some dealers, look into PCP deals because they are mega low apr rates and you can often buy cheap service packs with them which last for 3 years. We bought a Renault Twingo on PCP and we got 3 years servicing for a little over £100 so for the next 3 years we only have insurance and road tax to worry about and maybe 1 set of tyres. We took the GT version but you can get the bottom ones for near £100 per month and they cost buttons to run.
I would say similar is available from many other places, Hyundai and Kia often have good deals and someone at work bought a Fiat Punto recently for a good price. If you want it really cheap then you can't be a badge snob but also keep in mind that the smallest cars are not always the best deals, a Fiat 500 costs more to buy/lease than a Punto.
Hit the phone and keep Ling cars web site open so you can compare prices.
The car supermarkets might be worth considering, they do their own lease purchase type of thing and you can get good savings on a 6 month old car or a pre-reg car with delivery miles.
Keep in mind PCP/lease deals do try and knock money off at the end of the deal if you are handing the car back and not taking another for any damage, such as that caused in car parks etc.

..or, wife paying just over £200pm to own hers after 36mth. Not bad for something with 7yr warr / £30 tax / ESP / AC / ipod integration etc.Kia Picanto for £130 odd a month...
