My journey home from work is ridiculously short (~10mins) so I regularly take the long way home so that my car can warm up. 
If I set off a little late from work I hit all the traffic on Leeds ring rd. So I go for a nice hoon through the surrounding villages, it adds about 10minutes to my trip and 5miles but I cannot stand sitting in traffic so I prefer the nice country road route.
I do it alllll the time, if I've got enough fuel left I always take the scenic route.

A normal journey home takes roughly 30 minutes and I'm lucky because it's all nice twisty B roads. However I do sometimes take a few other routes on other B roads and some single track roads so can easily triple my time it takes to get home. This normally depends on weather, mood and music. I'm far more likely to take the long way on a Friday if the sun is out and the roof down, tomorrow is a good likelihood because I'm on holiday for a couple of weeks so if the weather is good then it'll be the scenic route.

Well at an average of 30 miles per hour for your commute to work, 10 minutes would see him travel five miles. I wouldn't be arsed walking 5 miles to work, and 5 miles back. That'd take an hour each way, give or take!unpc said:

Same when I'm going home after an early day shift or a nightshift. Rather than get stuck in the rush hour traffic of the suburban areas I drive through I take the long route down quiet dual carriageways. Doesn't get me home any quicker and puts more miles on the car but with less stress on the car, and it's much more enjoyable to actually be doing something as opposed to sitting waiting in traffic.
