Chemotherapy survivors..
Discussion
It's been about a year since I had my last round of chemo. I've had blood tests regularly since then and they've all been relatively normal. However I had one a few days ago and my doctor called me to say I have really low white cells again but everything else appears normal. Is this to be expected? Aside from feeling quite tired/lacking energy I feel ok in myself so I was surprised to hear this.
I'm seeing both my GP and oncologist within the next few weeks but wondered if anyone else who's had chemo has experienced similar blood test results over a year since their treatment.
It'd be just my luck that I get + beat cancer then get Leukemia or something a year later! I don't get worried over nothing though so will wait until I get some professional advice. I do know there's quite a few fellow cancer survivors here who might be able to relate to this.

In the year since my last (2009) my blood levels fluctuated and on a couple of occasions I had to have infusions (of irradiated blood, in my case). Since then the counts have all risen and the last time I saw my Haematologist he reported that I am now ‘at the bottom end of normal’.
I still get fatigue/tiredness and found out today that the left ventricle of my heart has been damaged by one of the chemo drugs. Not too badly apparently but it could account for the tiredness and they’re going to give me more tablets.
Keep your chin up and although it’s good to hear from other cancer/chemo survivors listen mostly to yourself and keep your consultant informed of any and all changes that concern you.
