Falkland Islands and our "arrogance"...
Discussion

Firstly are we really "arrogant" about our claim on the Falkland Islands or did we not win the war fair and square? time for the Argies to wind their necks in and shut-up?
Secondly, could we win a war to defend the islands again if we used slightly more dirty tactics? It is my understanding that the use of submarines during the Falklands war was a bit of a controversial matter. But if push came to shove we could probably sink a Argentinean naval fleet quite quickly with our superior subs. That would still leave a problem with air defences although I believe we have quite a good reserve in place in the Falklands already?
Over to you....

On the list of problems the Argies are facing, the Falklands are about number 145.
Lets start with cycles of hyper inflation, massive devaluation of your currency followed by the government taking your money from your bank accounts, thousands of mothers missing children from the times of the Junta, kidnappings, crime etc etc.
Go to Buenos Aires and you'll see one legged ex conscript soldiers from the Falklands war begging in the streets. It'll be a long time before the public support another invasion regardless of how bad the country is doing.

Argentina on her own would stand no chance, their military has been left to rot far more than ours.
When they invaded in 82 there was only a small party of Bootnecks on the Island for defence. Now there are a few Typhoons (that could probably down the whole Argentinian air force a couple of times over), a strengthened land presence and I believe that a submarine and frigate in close proximity at all times.
The trouble would come if another latin country was to help Argentina, Brazil has seen a massive rise in armament levels and would cause a serious headache if they lent a hand.
I doubt Obama would provide much support, unless there is a 'you scratch my back.....' agreement regarding Afghanistan.

The hypocrisy of this Fernandez woman is breath-taking. Britain is a declining colonial power is it? I suppose 'Fernandez' is a native Argentinian name is it? Oh no, you Spanish colonised Argentina by force didn't you? Why the hell does she think her colonisation of a bit of someones else's land gives her the moral high ground over our colonisation of someone else's land I really don't know.
I'm sure it is entirely unconnected with the fact that the Falklands have an estimated 60 billion barrels of oil under it. (The largest known oil field in the world, Ghawar in Saudi only has 80 billion barrels.)

The above fact having no bearing on our continued presence either ......I'm sure it is entirely unconnected with the fact that the Falklands have an estimated 60 billion barrels of oil under it. (The largest known oil field in the world, Ghawar in Saudi only has 80 billion barrels.)

Sabre rattling and talk is one thing, the falklands are safe until a large force under mixed latin flags sets sail.
Absolutely and they know this, so how will the South American coalition get hold of the oil then?Because that is the bargaining piece that Argentina will bring to the South American coalition table.
