Sensible Coupes?

Here is my situation...
I've just changed jobs and I've started commuting in my car. Now I love my octavia VRS (mk1 estate) dearly and it has served me well over the last 18 months but I could do with getting something that does better mpg and is generally a more special place to be. (plus I don't need the praticality of the skoda so much anymore)

Also.... I've got a coupe itch that needs scratching...

What I need is a diesel coupe

Now thats quite a hard thing to find so I've narrowed the list down to 3.
Pug RCZ
VW Scirocco
Audi TT

Can anybody think of anything else? I don't really want a 1 or 3 series BMW and I can't think of any other interesting oil burners....

I'm arranging test drives of the 3 above but I'm not sure any of them tick all the boxes... The RCZ is, well, french. The Scricco I find a little plain to look at, and I am struggling to get my head round the TT image.

Any thoughts?

All good calls, but with the exception of the Alfa they are all really hatchback aren't they.
I really don't find the brera a good looking car (sorry to Brera owners)

Presume you are looking at new? What's your budget?

Personally I WOULD test drive a 1 Series Coupe so that you can get an evaluated opinion on how they differ. The drive might well win you over too.

I think the Volvo is well worth a look tbh. I'd also have a look at Alfa think they do some diesel hatchy coupes.

How compromised are you willing to go? Is a new 1.6 Elise in budget? These are pretty good on fuel and are, well, a proper sports car.

New or newish. Budget I guess is about 20k. I do like the Volvo actually... Maybe I was hasty with that one.
The pug garage I am off to is also an alfa dealer so I'll have a look but I am pretty sure they are not for me. Depreciation must be horrendous!

Elise is a step too far I'm afraid. I have had a vx220 before and although it was amazing its not in the slightest bit pratical and far to focused for everyday.

CLK 320CDi if you don't mind it being 2-3 years old, or the CLS with same engine but even older.
Other than that, the A5 3.0Tdi or the Laguna Coupe V6 3.0 GT.

Not really a coupe, but some see it as a sort of 3 door shooting brake. But how about a MINI Cooper? The current Dooper can be well specced and a remap makes them rather peppy too.

Another one here for the 1-series Coop. I wasn't convinced when they were released, but I find them quite elegant now and definitely a better steer than the cars mentioned IMO.

A 2 year old 123d M-Sport with a few options ticked from BMW AUC would be a great place to sit.

I know from prev threads you have problems with telling a coupé from a hatchback but a Mini cooper being suggested (no, it's not a shooting brake either!) when OP wants a coupé is just absurd.

I like the C30, but wouldn't say it was a Coupe. Much like the Sirocco which IMO is a fat arsed hatchback.
