I think she's a bit of a genius, unique and a bit of a goddess.

Just been listening (first time in a while) to some of her songs. Just a lamp on, heavy rain outside, very good quality headphones on. Quite mesmerising and very atmospheric.

Any other thoughts?

Like any genius she has made mistakes but she has made atleast a few pieces of music that are almost perfect.

Wuthering heights
Cloud Busting
Man with a Child
King of the mountain
Breathing

Can reduce me to tears at the right moment. She is possibly the greatest singer, yet alone female singer.

I'll agree with you on that one, beautiful haunting voice, amazing songs, an inspiration for those who followed. Hounds of love is one of my favourite albums - truly brilliant. Still trying to getmy headaround the Pi song though!!!

As for being a goddess, in her prime I thought she was beautiful (still pretty good these days, TBH). As a teenager, in my bedroom, amongst all the heavy metal, roger dean type stuff that covered every inch of wall, there was one exception...a poster from look-in magazine. Just a simple back lit head shot with kate wearing the smile/frown theate mask earrings, just stunning (and before anyone gets grubby, no I didn't crack one out looking at it).

Life was simple then!!!!

Used to love her music then I married a woman who looked like her (people would say bloody hell doesn't she look like kate bush) who was batty as hell which kinda put me off.

I have been known to play her stuff on youtube though whilst having a smokey drink.

Agreed.

I am a huge fan of both Tori Amos and Kate Bush. (When working in commercial radio back in the day, I was lucky enough to interview Tori, and spend a few hours in her company - fascinating woman!)

After seeing this thread on Friday, I dug out the box set "This Woman's Work"

It has the recording of Wuthering Heights that was published in 1986 featuring an updated vocal.... Kate's voice was far more "trained" by then, and the re-worked version suffers hugely as a result. All of the raw energy in the original had disappeared, to be replaced with a highly polished and produced vocal track

Off to dig out the original version now.....

I remember thinking back in the day that she was as mad as the proverbial box of frogs - but reading up on her private life (which she has kept VERY private) she sounds like a very, very intelligent and sensible woman and mother.

And her music was always thought provoking and interesting.

Strange coincidence, I once had a girlfriend who resembled her closely, she too was as mad as a box of frogs - life has a way of evening things out doesn't it?!

Even stranger coincidence, exactly the same thing happened to a friend of mine, but even though they both had the same name, it wasn't the same woman!

The one I went out with was a great Kate Bush fan and played her music in my car all the time (I didn't disapprove).

Hounds of Love is one of the best albums ever made in my opinion, especially the 2nd 'side'. The production is just amazing.
Anyone heard/bought Director's Cut?

I've never liked Kate Bush's music. I just can't get on with her vocal style and find her grating to listen to.

Yes, just getting into it now. It's a grower, if I can use that term.

An absolute creative genius. I would say the same about Tori Amos, and while comparisons between the two are inevitable, I do think that is a bit unfortunate for Tori, who I am quite certain would be held in much higher regard had Kate not become famous.

Wuthering Heights is my all time favourite song from any artist, though I do prefer the 1986 vocal.

Some fantastic songs there to which I'd add 'A Coral Room' and 'The Sensual World'. For me though you do have to pick the wheat from the chaff from her albums (except Aerial) as I don't 'get' a lot of the tracks.

Wasn't that what Jeff Beck said once, when Kate was in attendance at one of his parties?

Seriously, though, she's a wonderful songwriting talent and singer IMHO.

Genius. Always sees a musical idea through and rarely takes the easy way out.

Lyrics contain so many gems. "Oh, England, my lion heart. Peter Pan steals the kids in Kensington Park." - Always makes me feel wistful, not sure what for.

Loved everything then I bought "Aerial". That is a BIG disappointment. To be honest I was felt so let down I haven't played the second disc at all and have only played the first twice. To compensate I have bought the Albums I didn't have though.

Oh and if I ever hear that bl@@dy "Washing machine" song again I'll smash the player with a hammer.

The second disc is rather good and completely different from the first. Play the last track 'Aerial' - superb IMO. Don't even mind the Rolf Harris bits...
