O/T Any jewellers in the house? Diamond ring question.
Discussion
As per the title.
I am planning to replace a signet ring I lost several years ago and will probably have something made by a local jeweller. I think he's a fairly reasonable chap but I wanted to check that I was not about to rob myself.
I am considering a band of platinum or white gold and a round brilliant cut diamond of around 0.9cwt and Si2.
I am also considering a colour of J-M with a touch of fluorescence because I have seen stones of that grade that have great fire but less of the colgate blinginess of whiter stones.
I am happy with a secondhand stone, which doesn't need a certificate. But it must be an excellent cut and I MIGHT get it appraised.
The setting is likely to be a gypsy or maybe something claw-based.
So, what should it cost me and any top tips please?

Your problem with the diamond you are considering is that it only really works on girls rings as the height from the culet to the table means it has to be in a setting so the culet does not stick into your finger.

I am assuming you are a guy?
Your other alternative is something with four square cut or a couple of baguette cut but really diamonds on blokes tend to look a a lot gay.
Platinum is a difficult and expensive metal to work with and looks more like stainless steel if it has not been rhodium plated. WG isn't really a bloke metal either.
What about something in Red, white and yellow gold?

I agree with some of what you say, apart from the gay bit. I had a diamond signet until I lost it in a drug-induced stupor after an operation (Personal possessions in an envelope and binned envelope with ring still in it). It was bought for me by a girlfriend and usually admired by girls.

There is a risk of a huge Liberace type ring looking utterly gay, but a rubover or gypsy setting providing the stone is not too large or bling looks fine. In my opinion. Which is one of the reasons why I don't want an especially white stone.
Thanks for the input though, seriously.
