Hi All,

I am looking to buy an MK Indy with either GSXR1000/GSXR1300 or ZX10/12 power plants.

Are there any things I should be weary of when buying these cars?
Also are there any particular essential specs to engines or cars that make them more desirable/reliable as an ownership prospect.

My budget will be £9500 which I think should secure me a nice vehicle!
I prefer the look of the MK Indy and am viewing one this evening.

Any help, advice or pointers would be greatfully appreciated?

Cheers
Jason
P.S. I have a very very fast VX220 Stage 4 Turbo for sale if anyone is interested...Offers over £12,200

Hi

With a budget off £9500. Why restrict it to a MK when there are far better manufactured cars such as Westfields well within your budget. !!

Is there really that much difference?

To be honest I hadn't really considered the Westfields, thought they look a bit too "bitty" if that makes sense or at least dash etc...I like the simplicity of the MK dash board plus also I feel the MK's look a little lower and more aggresive.

Surely it all hinges on the initial build quality?

I have experience with the ZX12R (F27) and GSX1300R(Hayabusa - see profile pic.) engines and my opinion is that the hayabusa is the one to go for if you can afford the extra cost, if not then get the newer GSXR1000. I think the ZX has a better sounding gear box ie. more of a whine but it has much less torque. At santa-pod the hayabusa car of the same weight was noticeably faster.

Clutches are a known problem on the ZX12R's particularly in cars due to the extra weight - as a passenger when my father pulled out of a junction quickly in a ZX it shattered a clutch and although they are very easy to replace they are quite expensive and being 'wet' use the engine oil supply hence a broken clutch will fill the sump with bits of metal.

Are you planning on having a reverse? The type you use may affect the cars acceleration more than the difference between engine choices.

If your looking for an MK then I would recommend you look for an "indy r" the latest chassis and seems to be a huge improvement over the original, I note indy r's clocked a 1-2 race finish at Cadwell last weekend.

As for engines, R1's seem to hold up well and have a good reputation, I went busa 3 years ago from a blade set up, had no issues with the engine at all to date.

?

It's a kit car - every one is unique.

My MK dashboard looks like this: -

When I first bought it, it looked like this: -

There's a plethora of MK dashes out there. They may supply a very basic sheet, but the builder can do what they want with it.
