Well it could be if they hadnt restricted the 911s, again
That's exactly why it will be a race! Remember last year, when Marcel Tiemann passed 7 cars before leaving the GP Circuit? The Manthey car was more or less driving off into the distance when it was taken out by that stray Golf.
Yes the GT3 R has been reigned in for this year, but Manthey are wheeling out the RSR again, along side the GT3 R... and at the last VLN were making changes to it to reduce drag to over come the power deficit.
BMW's M3 is running the same restrictors as the RSR (2 x 30mm)
The R8 and the SLS have been allowed more power - and much larger restrictors, but they're also 50kg more than the RSR, and 100KG more than the GT3 R.. the power to weight ratios are quite similar across all the top cars.. and lighter is going to mean longer between pit stops and less tyre wear.
That said all the big cars will have been sandbagging so far this year, and we've had 5 winners in the VLN so far (BMW M3 , Mercedes SLS, Ferrari F458, Porsche Hybrid, Audi R8), so am sure some surprises will show up before next saturday

The Hybrid won overall in VLN?
Not what you'd call a well publicised win!, for something thats pretty important in development terms for Porsche I'd have thought

yes it did! by about 4 seconds from the RSR.Not what you'd call a well publicised win!, for something thats pretty important in development terms for Porsche I'd have thought
This was before the latest BoP though - where it was further restricted from 465bhp -> 448bhp.
It was quite well publicised - well I was there for the race + watched/photographed it: http://www.thepitwall.com/2011/05/prius-pious-no-l...
Porsche sent a press release out following it "Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid: Efficiency yields first race win", and it was picked up by quite a few sites.
VLN was just a warm up though - the acid test will be the 24h

Should also point out that the RSR overall finished only a second behind the F458 in that race too, and that was after deducting a penalty lap to the RSR and 9 of the other top cars. (i.e. the RSR would otherwise have won by a long distance).
Olaf will have something in reserve though, I'm sure.
