I recently saw an advert for a very large chicken based fast food chain - the ad focused on the "chef" who was hand preparing chicken and rolling it in breadcrumbs, slicing tomatoes etc.

I popped in to the said chicken based chain last night for some nosebag and watched the "chef" cut open a bag of chicken wings and bung them in the deep fat fryer. Now I'm confused - is the advert telling porkies, and if so how do the get away with it?

I suppose it all depends on the "restaurant" and the menu item, IIRC, KFC use oil pressure cookers for their main items, so maybe wings are cooked another way . . . . It’s all just mass produced ste anyway, irrespective of what the adverts say . . . but not nearly as bad as the effluent churned out by McDonalds or Dominos

That would seem rather misleading; I'm not sure how it gets past the ASA. Advert shows exotic chef creating it lovingly on a Tuscan balcony while in reality it's made by the ton in big stainless steel vat in Milton Keynes...

Advert doesn't reflect reality shocker! Is it really such a surprise?

Or do you also think that Hovis have a full on celebration every time they bake a loaf of bread too?

its interesting they can do it - ASA are surprisingly strict, and competitors will report you if they think they can.

maybe they could claim the original kitchen process is like that?

'Legal decent honest and truthful' is the phrase I think.

I would however like to punch those two twonks who advertise 118118 really quite hard.

I guess it depends if the advert implies or makes a statement the product is cooked freshly on the grounds... does it?
