Hi all. Is there such a tool that will clamp a pipe without crushing it. Need to remove a bolt from the end of a thin walled pipe but cant grip it in the vice for fear of damaging the pipe itself. Have tried googling but with no luck so am turning to the great minds of PH!!

What is the outside diameter of the pipe?

You could try one of these, then clamp the handle in a vice to hold it all secure. smile

Couldn't you wrap a bit of old rubber innertube round it to protect it from the jaws of the vice whilst providing a bit of grip?

What material is the pipe?

Do you have a picture of said pipe?

A quick google comes up with something like this:

You'd just have to put a thin piece of rubber in first to stop it from rotating and put the whole thing in a vice. smile

I've had an idea (I'm on a roll here hehe). You could make one like in the last link (although not expensive, you've still got to order and wait for it). Drill a 10mm or 11mm hole in a piece of timber, then cut through the middle with a fine tooth junior hacksaw, insert a piece of rubber and clamp in a vice. nerd

Or taper a piece of dowel until it wedges inside the pipe - then you can stick it in a vice or mole grip as much as you like and it won't crush.
