Changing documents after engine change, what do i need

I have carried out an engine swap on my E36 318iS from a 1.9 to a 2.8, I am now at the point where I need to deal with the DVLA and their monumental incompetence
could anyone clarify exactly what documents I will need to give them along with the V5

Some for of receipt either confirming the purchase of the engine or a receipt from garage if they did the swap.

I bought the engine privately and fitted it myself

DVLA aren't much concerned about engine numbers even though they are recorded. Just write and tell them and AFAIK they will issue an amended V5.

Even if you do have that as I did and sent it back with the V5, then they claimed they never got it, So had to ask them for a duplicate V5 (that costs money) which I did then they send that back to you, as its a duplicate still has old engine number on it, so you then have to send it back with a copy of what you already sent them twice and with luck you get it back again, with the new engine number on it.

it has a nice selection of recipts forms on there just waiting to be filled in

The whole idea was to get the correct cc's of an engine for tax reasons, you'd be amazed how many people don't know the propper cc of an engine and the DVLA assume a garage will be better informed as to the correct cc, engine number ect, even if that garage is made up on the PC
