Sitting here fuming, am I overreacting?

Picked up my new (to me) 335d nearly two weeks ago, the previous owner had kept it in nice condition, so i wanted to do the same. I didn't want anyone to eat/ drink/ smoke in it. Since picking it up i've had people eating, drinking, getting in to the car immediately after having a cigarette, bringing loads of gravel in to the car on their shoes, flinging the door open and the door going into the bush, and people burping and farting in it. I feel like im on the edge of turning into howard hughes, i don't mean to be so anal, but its pissing me off, peoples complete disregard for YOUR car! I couldn't imagine treating their cars the way they've treated mine!

When my friends got in the car, they got a bag of sweets and a can of coke out, i politely reminded them that i didn't want anyone eating or drinking in it and all i got was "it'll be fine"......ITS NOT FINE!

Does anyone else get this when they get a new car? am i being a princess?

Won't let my kids eat in my car and I'm not exactly a GJOB. Seems fair enough to me, why should you have to clear up a mess other people make.

Yeah I'd be annoyed too, but I just tell them not to before they do anything and then they don't do it in the first place.

I think the reaction is fairly acceptable under the circumstances but do you operate a taxi service?

One solution might be to only collect the friends who respect what you are asking from now on.

I am exatcly the same. As I remind people, a car is probably the second biggest investment all of us will ever make, so I intend to look after it. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Nope I'd say it was totally understandable. Maybe the burping and farting is slightly too far, but definitely with eating and drinking I'm the same. Hate when people bring food etc. into my car, make a mess and just leave it.

Best thing to do is just refuse to let them in the car unless they either finish or wait until the journey is over.

I used to be a bit more anal about my car too, my friends respected that when I explained to them my reasons why they couldnt eat ect in my car. But then my mum and nephew started eating in my car without my permission, cant really tell mother off can I? So I've let people do what they want now, but they know the food thing annoys me so dont.

Though it begs the question, why are so many different people passengering in your car?

I think its fine. After tearing my hair out at the state our children/au pair seem happy to leave cars in, we bought a second-hand Freelander for kids/staff & go in anything else by rare exception. We also have fitted seat covers, spare floor mats and protectors for the backs of the front seats in the AMG to prevent it getting spoiled when they do go in it. Oh, and a boot liner too.

I leave a clairol foot spa and one of those twee hedgehog bristly boot cleaner things in the passenger door pocket just for this kind of situation.

I hate if it they get in all hot, and start using up my aircon too.

I have 3 children, they make an utter mess in my car, which currently is used as family transport, when I get in it there is st everywhere, the missus just shrugs her shoulders as if to say "it's ok, it'll clean up" and guess who will be cleaning it... So I can understand your rage, I try to ignore it, but occasionally it gets too much for me and I have to vacuum it out and clear out all the crap. Sigh... Really must sort her a car out

I don't think its an overreaction. I never let my father smoke in my car. DOn't care if its raining outside or not, he's not sitting in my car with a lit cigarette (it also negatively reinforces the fact that i dont like him smoking).

I have other things like not liking anyone putting phones/letters/paper on the dashboard, as it reflects up onto the windscreen, if sone does it i just throw it back at them. haha.
i only have mk3 fiesta, but i like to keep my interior clean and smelling nice.
