hi everyone, we are having some coving fitted in the next couple of weeks, basically some coving on the ceiling and then a small trough (kind of thing) which will house a rope light or LED strip light.

pros and cons of both, the leds look a little harsher whiter light but i think they cost less to run and they also run colder.

we want a warmer white light and the rope light seems to fit the bill look wise.

Have used something like this in the past:-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/5M-500CM-3528-SMD-LED-Strip-...

Pretty effective and reasonably priced.
They do need a plug in adaptor/transformer, you could wire a socket up in the coving via a switch, space permitting.
There is a chap on here that deals in LED lighting so he'll possibly have a better idea, (E36GUY if I remember rightly)

Thats the sort of thing i was looking at, good to see that someone has used it before aswell.
they all seem the same on ebay well similar pried, some with transformers etc and some without, gets confusing comparing them all . We have a double socket put in on the other side of the wall in the utility room which is mounted high fo rthe sockets, was going to get a remote control socket switch for it so i can switch them on and off via a remote control.

Good idea, I like the remote control sockets, got a few of them for various things, including the LED strip.
Uplighting coving will look good!
The above link doesn't include the power supply, there are other listings that include them, I'm sure your aware of this though.
Cheers

Yeah I did notice but thanks for pointing it out, I did get caught out a few times wondering why they were cheap and then noticing that they didn't have the the transformer with it.

That stuff on eBay is waaaay too cheap to be of good quality. That's £3.60 per metre so I would be asking very grave questions about the quality of the LED and the lifespan.

Hi what would you say is a decent price to pay and how can you tell if its decent quality, think rope light might be a cheaper alternative to it, I need about 35foot of it.

LED Strip is what you need. Rope light won't give you the wash you want.
