Audi A2

Thinking about getting an A2 , does anyone have any experience of them ? common faults etc usual stuff?

No experience but (fwiw) I think they are great. Quite fancy one myself, certainly a car before it's time, good luck to you.

All i know is that you cannot open the bonnet its bolted down

Seem to remember it's quite difficult to work on - the 'bonnet' flap only contains the fluid top-ups.

And I expect they're relatively expensive to insure due to the unusual aluminium construction (which was was Audi killed it, quickly, when the raw material price rose).

A friend of mine had the 1.6 one a few years back and he thought it was great. Certainly loads of room inside considering it's size

They are great!

1.4Tdi here, 60mpg+ however you seem to drive it, pefect shopping town car, comfy and surprisinly good even on the motorway and you can see 70mpg there

and the bonnet does open, it just comes off, rather than hinging open

as mentioned, they are a little more costly to insure over similar vehicles, but their aren't really anything similar about!

Nice car , wouldnt mind one some day, just one thing I remember apparently being said about them was that the windscreen wipers shook the car quite a lot lol

I owned a 1.6FSI Sport for a while.

The ride is very harsh, mine had the 17 inch wheels and the roads around Wiltshire aren`t perfect, the ride was crashy at best.

I had mine serviced at a specialist and it wasn`t too costly. However, A2 specific parts are not cheap. I had a problem with the convenience unit (it controls central locking, electric windows etc) and was quoted around £400 for a replacement.

It averaged around 38 mpg around town and 42 mpg on a run. I didn`t think insurance was too bad but they are a sod to repair properly so I`m sure a lot get written off for what initially appears to be superficial damage.

They are quite roomy inside, I`ve got two kids and it was plenty big enough for a weekend away four-up.

The 90bhp diesels retain good money if in good condition.

I`d recommend an SE spec car on 16 inch wheels. The ride on mine was just too firm on anything other than smooth surfaces.

Once the service flap is down, two quick release fasteners allow the entire bonnet to be lifted clean off the car (there are two locating spigots where you`d expect normal bonnet hinges to be). Not many cars offer such good access to be honest.

Had my 1.4 TDI for a year now, very happy with it the ride can be a bit hard, conv. control units can fail, water leaks in the boot. If it has open sky make sure it works, if it is less than 10 years old you might get it repaired by audi under warranty. pop over to the A2 forum. http://www.a2oc.net/forum/forum.php. You can retro fit cruise and as others have said 60mpg form the TDI

Quality little cars, well ahead of their time when launched. 1.4 TDi is best bet. Expensive used as they are now quite popular.
