"I'd rather be Cumming..."
Discussion
This is what I'm referring to: http://www.zazzle.com/id_rather_be_cummin_than_str...
But really this:

Ridiculous torque from a 6 cyl Cummins turbodiesel. I've been looking at these trucks for the last couple of weeks. Do you have anything quite as large on the roads of Blighty?

I don't think we have any pickups that are even close to those beasts.

Some of these things run in the 10s and many upgraded ones can hit the 12s in the 1/4 mile. Utterly ridiculous in a "you only live once" kind of way.

Just had a (very) quick look at the Dodge Ram web site.
It's got the 6.7 litre Cummins, which I believe is related to the old 5.9 litre, which was a good engine. It's rated at 350hp. Hmm. That is a pretty high rating for such a small engine. Maybe they are not expecting it to ever work that hard. Which, judging as they are showing it pulling a 5 tonne tractor on a trailer may well be the case (no pun intended).

I can't see that going through an emissions test Some of these things run in the 10s and many upgraded ones can hit the 12s in the 1/4 mile. Utterly ridiculous in a "you only live once" kind of way.

The thing that's important on these is torque. In stock form, it is 650 lbf·ft (880 N·m). This is very easily upgraded by a host of simple aftermarket additions. Many of these engines (in stock form, mind) last beyond a million miles without ever having to open them up. They are very well engineered beasts. It's got the 6.7 litre Cummins, which I believe is related to the old 5.9 litre, which was a good engine. It's rated at 350hp. Hmm. Diesels are exempt from emissions tests here! (except maybe the new ones coming from Germany, I'm not sure). But these diesel trucks never need testing, even here in CA. The black smoke results from the removal of some parts, they don't smoke like that stock.

Here is the off highway page for the 6.7
http://cumminsengines.com/every/misc/Technology/ti...
When they put it in a pickup they make it rev to 3013
The 5.9litre I used to use was rated at 2350http://cumminsengines.com/every/applications/dodge...
They're good engines and they do last, but in a pickup I'd say it was a fairly light application for it, which is why they give it a high power rating because it's not expected to run under full load for hours at a time.
