Lens protection

Just wondering If you can buy a dedicated lens protector because I am using a uv filter at the moment and I'm sure that must be affecting my shot more then just a clear peace of glass or plastic would. I haven't been able to find any clear once and wondered what other people use.

What you're after is known as an "optical flat" filter, they aren't cheap though!

Obviously worthwhile if you are using an expensive lens around sand/salt water etc.

I don't think you'll find much difference between a UV filter and a 'protection' filter. The difference between either of those and no filter will be far greater.

Unless you are in an extreme situation (gravel rally stage, heavy sea spray, etc.) then none is better than anything money can buy. Why add an extra piece of glass that you just don't need?
