Sending photos to Sprint
Discussion
Ah - I get the picture. Thanks chaps! I did mail the editor the other night to find out whether it'd be okay to send 2 or 3 attachments (don't know whether he's on dialup), but there was no reply and I didn't want to pester him.
Not to worry, I'll try and give him a call if I can find time.
Thanks!

Sian,
Thanks for asking.
My preferred method of receiving pictures is on a CD posted to my home address. But email is ok.
I try and keep a couple of months or so in advance with Picture This so I have already got September planned. However, I try and 'balance' the images by model, age, style of picture, and overall colour so if yours 'fit' better than the ones on the list then it could go in earlier.
I only have a 10 meg buffer on my TVRCC email address so, if you intend to send large files, I would like to know when you are going to send them as I can then clear them as and when they come in.
If you are thinking of sending an article in, then please phone me first to discuss it. The type of article I, or any editor, really like is one without an eat-by date so I can have a tactical reserve. That said, if you have an idea for an unusual angle on something like the Motor Show, or Goodwood, then I would still be very interested.
If you send an article in on spec then I probably will not be able to fit it in for some months.
If you, or anyone else, has any problem or complaint, then please give me a buzz on the phone number in Sprint or on the website.
Thanks for taking the trouble of contributing to Sprint.
Regards,
Derek

Jeez Derek...considering the amount of piccies you must have sent to you each month....that's really not enough is it? (I sent 5 1mb pics last month for my report
) Can't our wizard Paul upgrade that for you.....
By the way......with a name like Bid Ed and a piccy of George Clooney on your TVRcc profile.....I'm getting a little worried about you.....
...//P// Pauline,
Ah, yes. I remember those well.
I have another emails address with a 50 meg buffer but I don't want to publish that as I'm worried about spam. I get around 150 spam emails each day on the editor address and, although I have a filter that places them into a separate folder, as it is a bit overzealous, I have to go through them to ensure that I read the real ones.
If you have a lot to send, then give me a call and I'll let you have the other address. That goes for everyone.
As for Big Ed, with the type of spam I'm getting, they must think 'Big' is inappropriate.
And what's this about Clooney? The picture is of me. Mind you, on a good day.
Regards,
Derek

Hi Derek,
Great - thanks for clarifying the situation.
I'll get a CD off to you in the post as soon as I get a minute, then. Might add a couple of other photos as well since I'm sending you a CD - may as well make it worth the postage!
I wasn't planning on sending you an article, I'm afraid...
Thanks again!

Probably not the forum to make suggestions on the format of Sprint, but I for one enjoy the 'Picture This' feature, and feel it could be extended to a double page spread and hence capture at least 10 images of readers' cars.
I was only thinking this whilst reading readers' wives in last month's Pentho...... aheam.... errr....
Seriously, I would love to see my pride and joy in Sprint, and I wonder how made quality images get rejected. Each month only 4 or 5 are published and as a reader I would like to see more. (I don't care about the prizes and would be happy if these are awarded to say the top 3 images.)
I sent a piccy in a couple of weeks ago (3mb by email!) hoping it might be in time for June's Sprint, but now I know that's unlikely. Shame coz as it's going to be the Chimaera edition I thought it one of the rare chances of getting piccys publish or the (boring old
) Chimaera.
I'm sure others would ratify the idea of more readers' piccys?

Jarcy said:None! If the image is of printable quality then I keep it. The only reason for rejection is that it is not of high enough quality. I would reject one that has no connection with the Club but that hasn't arisen, nor has the other reason - there's a nude in it (i.e. the picture would probably offend readers or it is in poor taste).

One I did not dare print was a wedding photograph of a couple of TVRs bedecked in white ribbon and no bride. My wife said that she knew the photo had been taken by a man!
The Picture This folder on my PC is 102 meg. That includes thumbnails of those sent in by CD, but the rest are emailed.
Keep sending them in although please realise that you are in for a wait before they are printed.
The MO, by the way, if for me to send 8-10 pictures to Geoff at Glenvarigill, he picks the winner then I discuss the others to go in with Jon of Online Design so as we get a decent balance.
June's winner is a particularly striking image.
Regards,
Derek
