New FWD 'Ring Record For Renault
Megane Renaultsport takes new front-drive production car lap record
Renault has set a new front-wheel-drive production car record at the Nurburgring with the new limited-edition Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy.
The new time of 8mins 8secs beats the previous record set by - er - Renault by nine seconds.
The new benchmark helps to cement Renault's reputation as genuine hot hatch royalty, and consigns the previous record, set by a Megane R26.R back in 2008, to history.
What's particularly impressive about the time is that, despite the fact that the latest Megane Trophy is a limited edition, it is not a stripped-out hardcore special like the R26.R was, but not all that much more than a Renaulsport Megane with a tad more power and some sticky tyres (15 extra hp and 15lb ft extra, to be precise)...
Bravo, Regie, but you are going to make some R26.R owners rather jealous with your antics...

What time does a DC5 do a lap in?
Dont know if theres been one timed but the DC2 done an 8.43That time for the Megane is incredible...
As a 250 owner i am of course well chuffed with this! The 250 doesn't have an official time from renault which is a shame but it can't be a million miles away seeing as the Trophy has only a few small changes.
PR team on the Renault forum pointed out...
265 Trophy is ranked 101st fastest recorded production car lap of the Nordschleife on fastestlaps.com
Comes ahead of Cayman S, Diablo SV, 993 GT2(!), KTM X-Bow, M5, 1M... and not too far behind... M6, 550 Maranello and Caterham Superlight R.
Nearest non-Renaultsport hot hatch is the Golf R in 156th with 8:23.
Pretty good going really!
Oh and before anyones says anything about it breaking down, its been faultless for me, mostly minor issues from reading on the other renault sites and the build quality is sooo much better than my 225 and on par at least with the competition. And it goes like stink on a b-road!
The residual values are eye wateringly gut wrenching though, so if you buy one just never sell it haha ior don't buy a new one!

Great news for the guys, yet another turdburgering statistic........
Can't help but think that the Nut holding the wheel is worth more than tyres, stripped out interiors, ECU tweaks ad infinitum etc etc . Until you get one driver, on one day to undertake back-to-back times in reference cars from a wide range of manufacturer's, otherwise the stats are meaningless. Corporate c*ck swinging only. How quick would an R26R have been with today's driver/track conditions?Irrelevant without knowing what tyres were used. This is where you gain time but people rarely notice those very very special super soft super sticky one-offs for the job. Oldest trick in the book. I hope I am wrong though but have a look at the pic = the bloke from Coast is sitting exactly in front of the wheel!

It tells you in the article - "Bridgestone Potenza RE050A".I agree that Nurburgring times seem to be entirely dependent on the mass of the pilot's orbs. And of course tyres, track temp, moisture etc.
I dare say if you stuck him in a Cayman S he'd go quicker again. Sort of shows up how silly a fixation on a "benchmark" with so many variable factors can be.
Very good result for the Renault though. Who was the driver, incidentally?
