Austin 1300 mkII - New owner
Discussion
Well, after 7years of driving I finally succumbed to temptation and joined the classic card fraternity, and plumped for a 1970 Austin 1300 mkII.
Decided fast cars were costing me too much and going to lose my license, so time for something slow and liable to bankrupt me.
WOL 78 J is his reg, and the OH has now named him Wolly.
Collected Thursday, pootled round Saturday, Harewood House Car Show on Sunday, first oil leak Sunday night...... HUZZAH!

Dealer shot.

Nice, all original interior.

And finally, the mighty engine:

The plan is to run him over summer, then end of September, when I go on holiday, put him in winter storage and see how the weather pans out. Then next year see what attention he needs.
In terms of "issues" already: 1x heater not working (any ideas welcome) and 1x oil leak, dealer sorting, suspected sump plug issue relating to service they gave it.
Hopefully have some happy days out in him.

I had a Mark 1 a few years ago - changed the rear subfame and then used it every day for a year or so before the gearbox died.
Problem with mine was that it used to leak like a sieve into the footwells. I think that leaves got into the vent in front of the windscreen, blocking the drian holes and causing the heater box to rust out from the inside. It's a common fault and you need to cut the bulge in the heater box out under the bonnet for access. Some people can't be bothered and put something over the vents when the car's parked up to keep the rain out.
Apart from that the other issue that I had was that the clutch went one day on the way home from work. No problem - access is relatively easy from above and I changed it the next day. Except that when I'd finished I still had no drive. Ended up being the big nuts on the front driveshafts which were loose and just needed tightening up a bit, which took be all of 5 minutes.. Oops!
Great cars though. A few years later I had a Vanden Plas with the wood and picnic tables, but always prefered my Mark 1.

Lovely, these were great cars, masses of space & drove quite well, sort of like a big mini!
Keep on top of the rust, used to sort lots of sills on these, lot & lots of Wayoyl. Grease the various bushes as replacement is a pain. I think there is an owners club which would be worth joining as well.
Better brakes than a mini though.

Or 1275cc turbo ...... or cough K-series!
1400cc k series out of an MG ZR did cross my mind, along with a 5speed box and some all round discs. 800kg, 105bhp at 6,000rpm and 1970 shell, did appeal haha.BUT, for now, owners club and see how he runs until next year is order of the day
