Bag Advise Sought

Have a bit of a problem with how to protect my camera/lenses while shooting outdoors, thus I am looking for advise.

I have a nice kit - EOS 5D Mark II, 17-40L as a walk-around lens and 70-200 2.8L for the arty-farty stuff. Sometimes I also carry the 24-70 2.8L too. Most of the time when I am outdoors - I am also carrying our 11mth baby daughter in a baby carrier rucksack, which rules out a dedicated camera bag. I cannot make SWMBO carry one as she is already lugging the baby stuff in her rucksack.

The camera is weather proof and so are the lenese, but I am weary of scratching them, plus it does get tiring to have a camera and lens pouches hanging off your neck...

Any suggestions? I am sure that I am not the only one who is having to combine a baby and photography at the same time?

Will have a Google but I'm sure you can get utility style belts for camera gear that may work for you.

Think Tank modular belt kit, with a Digital Holster to hold the camera and attached lens and lens pouches for the other lenses.

I bought a kit off Harrison Cameras in Sheffield the week before Le Mans and it was ideal, all your kit easily available whilst leaving your hands free.

I can also recommend Black Rapid R-strap - goes diagonally over one shoulder and is adjustable so you can actually move the camera around to your back, keeping it out of the way if you're carrying other stuff. I loathe carrying my camera around my neck and often just used to handcarry it all the time - this makes life much easier.

BlackRapids are awesome, I'd definitely recommend them. However they'll only let you carry your camera + the lens already attached.

Sounds like the belt kit is your best option as mentioned above, I'm pretty sure Lowe Pro offer one too.

I use one too when out in the field and it really is good, very flexible in terms of arrangements, well made, lots of options and as it sits right on the hips, you can take quite a bit of weight and not notice it. Your only stumbling block may be the belt not sitting well with the bottom of the baby carrier. It's one you'd need to try.

As another poster pointed out Lowe Pro also do a modular belt type option.

I've tried several solutions for bags that claim to give easy access to your camera when you need it and quickly stow it away when you don't - and this is the only one that really worked for me. I think it could work very well whilst wearing a Baby Carrier.

My wife says it makes me look like a cross between an Israeli Commando and Bob The Builder when wearing it - I choose to take this as a complement.

Lol, I always think about the Vietnam/Afghan war reporters with a few cameras slung around their neck... Then I wake up and realise that we are in North Wales and I have a baby carrier on my back and not a rucksack/M16/Ak47...

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I will go with the belt...
