So I’m going to Menorca in a couple of weeks and I am staying at Cala Galdana. We also have a hire car so can travel around the island. Has anyone got any recommendations of things to do? I have been there before and stuck to the beach for a week as didn’t have a car.

Caves of Xoroi in Cala En Porter, bar/cafe during the day, nightclub in the evenings, fairly spectacular.

Cala En Porter has quite a nice beach set in a cove, there are also some stunning and deserted small coves dotted around that are worth searching out.

Monte Toro in the middle of the island has a monastry at the top which you can drive to for a nosey around. 360 views of the whole island.

The village of Fornells in the north of the island is famous for it's seafood and has a wee harbour worth wandering about.

EXACTLY what he^^^ said. Spent many holidays there as a child and visited all of the above. We always used to stay at Cala En Porter, loved it there. Where you are staying is nice too. Would love to go back one year.

There is also a hidden beach we always used to visit, you have to park then walk about 25/20 mins to get to it.
It is detailed here: (Cala Pregonda)

Lovely island, but it is the quietest of the Balearics, so not a huge amount of life to be had.

Cala Galdana is a nice place, good cove and beach. We will be the Cala n Bosch marina on the south west corner from July 4th which has a good selection of restaurants of varying quality around the boats. We also will have a car so will be blatting around the island a bit.

Good suggestions so far. I would add that Arenal d'en Castell is a very good beach - probably my favourite, and the next resort north, Son Parc for some "kiss me quick" style restaurants & bars or a bit of golf. I also like the lazy atmosphere at Fornells up that way with the good fish restaurants as already mentioned. Try to hit the really little sea villages for the truly good fish.

Cuitadella is the old capital, nice place to eat in the evening if you are in the west of the island. Never really liked Sto Thomas and that area on the south coast - featureless beach with a strong rip tide.

If you want quiet beaches, the north west coast is the best area. Drive down pretty much any small road, stop and open a few gates to drive thru and as the road peters out to two strips of tarmac with grass in the middle, soon after you will arrive at a deserted sandy cove maybe only 30m across. If it is not deserted, be ready to do a quick about turn as the folks are likely to be au naturelle...

If you are not quite sure, have a run up to the monastery mentioned earlier. You can see most of the island from up there on a clear day.

It really is a lovely island, and as a quick aside, until he recently passed away, I heard that Trevor Wilkinson (Mr TVR) lived in Menorca.

I love Cala Galdana, If your happy to walk for a bit then there are some fantastic secluded beaches that are only accessible by walking along cliff edges etc.

I bought a book from the little shop in the Cala Galdana Hotel which explains the routes, well worth it for a bit of adventure.

There is the odd nudist cove beach though.
