The new clutch release bearing is on and new gearbox oil, which I hope would have helped the problem, but it hasn't.

I believe my gearbox is a T5 due to the layout. Going up through the gears at sensible revs is fine, but I can't always get 3rd when reaching the red line in 2nd. When in 5th I also have problems getting 4th or even 3rd, sometimes having to put it in 2nd first then up to 3rd.

This becomes a problem when you are trying to overtake couple of idiots (long story) from a roundabout on a single carriageway and it won't go into 3rd.

Box mileage?

Oil type?

Dragging clutch?

Synchros fading making selection poor when revs are high and you are trying to mesh gears that are revolving at different rates, hence poor synchromesh!

Cleaning and oiling the remote control joints helped mine a lot. You can get at them quite easily by taking off the trim around the gear lever. I then cleaned mine with a degreaser spray and then used WD40. to get oil into the joints.

People have also reported improvements though using gearbox oils other than ATF - maybe worth a search to read about it?

Aha !!

I had this - although mine is the older box - however, changed the oil and stuck in some Castrol SMS-X (yes, you can get it in Halfrauds) - no further problems....
