Dear all

There are few stuff to sort out on my car and I am a bit tired to bring it to Coventry (I am in london) when something is wrong. Anyways, here are a few questions for you, s6/tuscan experts. I already read a lot on each issue, I think I know what the solution but I am not sure on how to do that. Please bear with my english, not my mother tounge:

1. Right fan does turn on. Checked all the relevant fuse and relays, they look fine. Checked the connector of right hand fan: it looks very "corroded" (not sure about the word, the metal parts inside the fan connector are all green). Is there any spray I could buy that would remove this "corrosion"? Any thoughts? Hopefully this will solve this issue.

2. Idle rpm is too high. Read a lot about it, it's probably the throttle butterfly that needs to be cleaned (correct me if I am wrong). How to access this? I am a newbie, do you think it's irrealistic for me to manage to do that?

3. I feel some vibration in the brake pedal, when I brake. Disc and brakes pad are all very recent, From my readings, it means that one brake is braking stronger than the other. After a fewmiles, if I touch the front brakes, one is hotter than the other. This I think corroborates my readings. Can I go to a local garage and ask them to check the "brake balance" of my front brakes? Can I do something myself? Any suggestion?

4. there is a lot of rust on some parts of the s6: is it something to be concerned about? should I do something about it (apart for aesthetics matters).

edit: 5. the seal on my front windscreen is loose on the bottom side. Should I try to glue it back? or get a new one? can I put it myself or is it a little bit too complicated?

thank you all

Ben

WD40 will do the trick or a good switch cleaner such as Amberkleen

2. Idle rpm is too high. Read a lot about it, it's probably the throttle butterfly that needs to be cleaned (correct me if I am wrong). How to access this? I am a newbie, do you think it's irrealistic for me to manage to do that?

Not the easiest job to do (as I am finding out), have you reset the throttle pots using the diagnostic software? It is likely that they will need balancing.

3. I feel some vibration in the brake pedal, when I brake. Disc and brakes pad are all very recent, From my readings, it means that one brake is braking stronger than the other. After a fewmiles, if I touch the front brakes, one is hotter than the other. This I think corroborates my readings. It could it just needs freeing up, or worse case rebuilding. Bespoke is not too far away and I would recommend them. They are in Barnet. Str8six is just up the M40. How much use is the car getting, has it been laid up for any time. If you jack up the car does each wheel move fine, no binding?

4. there is a lot of rust on some parts of the s6: is it something to be concerned about? should I do something about it (apart for aesthetics matters).

Where makes a big difference, any surface rust needs to be treated to stop further problems if you can.

edit: 5. the seal on my front windscreen is loose on the bottom side. Should I try to glue it back? or get a new one? can I put it myself or is it a little bit too complicated?

Just stick it down with the right black glue.

Hope that helps

thank you all

Yes! It can be that bad.

Brake balance is usually adjustable front to rear. Not side to side. At least I haven't come across a car with a system that allows this adjustment.

Probably just a sticky caliper, had it on other cars before.

I dont think it would be too difficult to rebuild the ap calipers after looking at them.

Braking effort should be the same on each side, but different front to back. My advice nip around the local MOT station/garage and ask them to do a brake test. Kwik Fit do it for free I think......

Regarding Q2, you mention it could be a sticky throttle butterfly? It could...(it was with me) but could also just need balancing / adjusting. When i had this symtom the idle didnt stay high, it just stayed at around 1500rpm for 3-4 seconds after dipping the clutch and then came down.

Have you got Graham Varleys Sagaris manual? will tell you virtually everything you need to know bout the Tuscan too. There are a few threads on throttle balancing, adaptive resets, throttle pot resets and idle adjust, have a look around, if you get stuck, post back here, i probably have some links.

Regarding Q3....it could just be that the pads need bedding in? How much use is / has the car been getting. With mine, i replaced rear pads this spring, but the inside of the discs had corroded a little, i guess from lack of use, first time i used the brakes i thought something had broken it felt awful!! After checking everything was OK, a few hard stops from speed sorted them out wink

Bear in mind the first (left side) should come on about 90 degrees and the second, from memory, about 97 degree, it could just be that you're not getting the higher temperature?

On mine the right hand fan comes on first. Its very rare that the car gets hot enough for the second fan to kick in. I have done a spirited drive at up to 130(insert speed unit of choice here), then stopped and idled for 7 or 8 mins and the temp didnt get over 96.

Try toilet cleaner on the contacts and scrub with a small brush. That should remove all the green stuff.

I was mentally looking from the front of the car when I posted paperbag

eta: and my 2nd fan has never come on, although the longer I've had the car the hotter the engine has run.

My second fan did not use to come on either, although the fist one would come on and usually keep the temperature to <96 Deg.C, however on a particularly warm day temperature went up to 98/99 Deg.C and the second fan did still not start, found the relay was U/S. They usually come on at 92 & 96 Deg.C, unless you have a TVR Power cooling chip when both fans come on together.
