Finally had enough after 7 months or so of incessant negative attitude, blame culturing, scape goating, and corporate management by interrogation, so tomorrow I will be handing in my notice.
Right now I dont have another job to go to either so wish me luck - this may be the kick up the arse I need! ( the quitting your job on impulse thread was a big factor in this decision).
For anyone on the look out, I am a BDM/KAM/Proj Man/Ops Director in the fire detection and suppression industry
Unfortunately it means I will have to shelve the idea of buying a 911 or range rover vogue for a little while though but I think I can live with that in the short term.

thing is I just came back from 2 weeks paternity this morning, 1st email from boss is a s
tty one followed up by a s
tty conversation in which I got the blame for an I.T. problem that i dont have any control over!
To be honest its pretty daunting but I'd rather this than delay my departure from this company by any longer.
Question is, do I put anything together for the 1/2 yearly review which I am due to have tomorrow p.m.?- seems a bit pointless really isnt it?? I'd rather concentrate on getting him all the info on the various projects which are in progress to enable a clean handover to someone else.
Also, whats a sure fire way of getting gardening leave??

If I was in your position, I would go in all guns blazing tomorrow.I would have a Jerry Maguire type mission statement, a list of things which need to change and suggestions on how to change them along with a verging-on-ridiculous demand for payrise/better working conditions.
Ask for a full written response.
Possibly outcomes:
1) Nothing happens - you leave
2) They promise changes, they don't materialise - you leave
3) They promise changes, they do materialise - happy days
4) They put you in charge of implementing the changes - jackpot
I will take the all guns blazing approach- however I think the 6 month review may be scrapped in favour of a "how dare you hand in your notice" interrogation session.
I'm writing a list of problem with solutions, I already work from home and I really doubt they will give me a pay rise so I think its still walkies time - but maybe I can make it better for the other guys who are left behind with the same management team.

Tell me to p**s off by all means but, if you're just back from paternity leave, wouldn't the safe option to be looking for somewhere else whilst still working there?
I'm sure that you're totally fed up with your employer but surely the ongoig income would be useful.
Anyway, whatever you do, good luck!

No no no. Keep your resignation as the ace up your sleeve. It would also be quite funny if you feigned a misunderstanding of the 6 month review.
"I'm ready to give the company it's 6 month review and I believe if you follow the recommendations I am proposing we can increase turnover x%/decrease costs x%/improve staff morale/lower staff turnover figures/etc."
I figure I can get some income within 4 weeks (taxi anyone?)and if not I've saved up enough to buy a (secoind hand admittedly) rangerover/911 so its that money which will be paying the bills.
The wife being on maternity leave, lessens the childcare costs for the eldest and the youngest not being in nursery at all probably means that right now I'll be in the strongest financial position for the next 6 months than I will be for the next 3 years!.
I also have a £8-10k car, a £2.5k motorbike and a £1k shotgun to sell if necessary- I can buy them all again when things get better!
or do I sell the lot now and invest in a business - ooooh the freedom.

Staff turnover for my role seems to be 8-12 months so perhaps thats where I can focus on but in reality the guy i work for isnt moving anywhere and I doubt he can change his attitude - one of his goals is to stop judging others by his own standards and by that the mean working all hours god sends, and getting hung up on petty grammatical changes and writing styles.
Hence really its me thats got to go but I'd like them to consider why this is happening and perhaps thisnwill change for the other guys who dont have the balls/financial security to walk.

Fair enough!OK, none of my business, but you have posted this on a forum...
You've just had a kid, there is a recession on, you've already got an older kid + a few toys, WHY risk all of this for the sake biting your tongue for a little longer.
Focus on getting a new job NOW, or new business, but until then keep a salary coming in, I'm sure your wife won't appreciate the extra stress right now of you with no income.
This way you can keep your current level of life, look after your family, then sort your work life out...
