I've had quite a look at these figures and the numbers of licenced and SORN vehicles do seem to be roughly proportionally constant. There will be quite a few cars of all types missing due to V5 having a blank in the 'model name' field so that will account for quite a few.
If we look at numbers of new registrations from 2001 in the same data we can see that they don't correspond with 'official figures' quoted in books & from 'official TVR sources'
For example some figures I have for 2001/2002 production of Griffs from a TVR source claims 146 built, whereas the new registrations for the same period and after only total 94 (including the late comers) even if we're very generous and say that one quarter of the ones listed as 'missing' i.e. no name in the model field on the V5(which total 82) say 20 are Griffs that still falls short of the claimed production numbers by 32!!
So I think the biggest thing we can draw from this is that TVR never told the real truth about how many cars they built and indeed they actually produced less than they claimed.

I,m sure you are dead right, more cars so called built means more money from the stocking plan finance agreement when the finance people came to check, the so called extra cars!!!!

for example I have stories on good authority that cars where moved round from the front to the rear of the production area during inspections as one trick. That's also why there is so much confusion over cars like the T440/Typhon and SP12 Cerbs as the same cars were regularily resprayed and re-registered and then they 'forgot'

The number of cars listed as being reg'd in the last 7 years is confusing too. The last of the SE cars, afaik, were registered in 2003.

2003 is probably correct for a dealer registered/sold car but either last year or the year before Paul Calland and I were told by a lady at teh NEC Classic show that they had a Griffith in a barn at home that was brand new and unregistered!!! She was somewhat surprised that we were horrified rather than impressed, so it is possible that people have cars squirreled away that are still unknown.
