What's the best Cognac for under £30

I need to buy a bottle of something a little different. I'm aware of Remy Martin etc but any guidance would be appreciated

Does it have to be cognac or will a brandy from another region suffice?
If so, Asbach is a very nice smooth German brandy (also comes in a nice plastic wrap if it's for a gift)
If not, then something like an A. De Fussigny will punch above it's weight compared to the big brand VSOP's.

Janneu armagnac is about £30 and under for some of their bottles. Really good stuff.
