Where in Europe by car this weekend?
Discussion
So, there are two of us in a Prius. Yes I know etc. Its a company car.
We have from 17:00 Friday (24th June) to get from NE London to anywhere in Europe and get back to NE London on Sunday night all in time for work on Monday morning.
The requirements are;
- Nights out on the Friday (will be a late one) and the Saturday
- Relatively cheap beer
- Lively
- Not interested in sights as this is not that kind of holiday
- Budget, not too worried about this as we'll book a cheapo hotel to maximise the sampling of the local cuisine.
So far we are thinking a German city; Hamburg, Munich, Berlin or Amsterdam (Yes I know this isn't in Germany). We are open to leftfield suggestions so long as it meets the above criteria.

Belgium's not as boring as everyone thinks. Add it to the list, and when looking at beer prices factor in that it's normally about 60% stronger than anywhere else.
Gives you a bit more drinking time than driving to Germany too.
Beer prices in Paris were murderous when I was there for the rugby in Feb.
About 8 euros for a half litre.
John Beattie blogged about finding 16 euro half litres!
Other cities in Holland are likely to be cheaper than Amsterdam. Eindhoven or Rotterdam mebbes?

Cologne is easy to get to, probably only 2 hours from Calais. The local 'Kolsch' is a decent drink, and as ever in Germany there's plenty of choice when it comes to drinks.
Munich would be my suggestion, but it's a long drive if you're only going for the weekend.
Nuremburg is a nice place, especially the old town. Though you do say you're not so bothered about the sights, so maybe not worth going so far.

2 locations in a weekend? somewhere very close to Calais Friday, Ive actually had a good night out in Calais, we found an Absynthe bar, the rest is history, you could then have a lie in and breakfast Sat then a 4 hour drive Sat to your next destination in 4 hours you could easily get 300 miles into Germany, Belgium, France, good night out Sat and then the long slog home Sunday night.
