We're travelling from Preston Lancs to Whitby for a few days and wondering which is the best route. I planned to go A59 but heard (from an non reliable source) that there's a long diversion around Blubberhouses. Can't find anything web based to confirm this.

Alternative is via M61/62 and onto York but an 8.30 start mid week (Tues 20th, June) could dump me in heavy traffic jams.

Any thoughts on the best way?

Thanks.

Yes, the Blubberhouses road is currently closed. I had to go to Harrogate over the weekend and avoided that route. Saw the signs. I have no idea of the diversion or reason though.

Ilkley/Otley diversion for Blubberhouses usually a traffic nightmare. my advice would be to take the A 59 to Skipton, then turn off for Grassington>Pateley Bridge>Ripon>Thirsk>Pickering. Nice scenic route.
