Hi
I have started preparing a shell for a respray (in a different colour, Black to Red).

I have sanded down the bumpers with 800 grit wet and dry and need advice as to what is the best steps next.

I have heard that you should coat everything in matt black first??? I think this is to show any imperfections?

If this is the case do I then primer straight over the matt black after flattening it?

Naturally then it would be the top coat over the flattened primer.

Any advice would be great

The matt black you're describing is what's known as a guide coat. It's applied to the primer so you can see any imperfections when sanding down the primer.

Based on the questions you're asking, I'm wondering if you should be taking the next step and possibly creating a disaster?

Cheers
David

Disaster?
I dont think it will be a disaster; this is why I am doing my reseach now.
In the past I have refurbished componets with great results...

I think that will a little guidance from people in the know I can get a very high stanadard of finish.

Thanks for the advice on the base coat
