Having read the forum for the last couple of weeks and planning to take the plunge very shortly, Im after any thoughts/comments on what sort of milage car to be looking for. Ive read that the lower milage cars are not necessarily the best as the niggles and gremlins can all still be present. I plan to use the car as a daily driver, probably in the region of 12 - 15K per year. Would a car with mileage averaging about 5 -6K be the right figure?

Buy on overall condition, don't let mileage alone influence you either way.
I've read many threads about low mileage cars being bad news, and I can sort of see where this logic comes from. Having a faultless totally reliable 9000 mile 4 year Chim 500 in the garage I can also see where the argument falls down. Look at as many as you can in the price band you can afford - and don't be blinkered by mileage.

My M reg Chimaera is soon to clock up 75'000 miles

Daily driver (and I do mean every day) and it has only failed to complete two journeys in nearly two years.
On one occassion the 100 amp fuselink rotted (easy fix- £1.50), the other was due to a drained battery which was in the car when I bought it and was of a type less than the 072 required. Ergo, inevitable really.
Oh yes, there are niggles now and again but you soon learn to recognise, diagnose and learn from them- (that said, the stalling due to, what turned out to be the HT leads breaking down, had me posting on here pronto!).
IMHO, a well maintained RV8 TVR will eat miles- albeit very quickly!!

As above mileage doesnt matter too much, these cars go wrong if they are not used so a 20,000 mile M reg would ring alaem bell just as much as one that did 150,000. These cars tend to do about 6,000 a year, so one with mileage comensurate to age is a good start.

Always buy on condition/price. Mine has just turned 87000. When I bought it (84K) the one beside it in the dealers was 9 months younger & had 34000 miles on it but was £5k more!
