RE: E-Wolf Electric Supercar Spec Revealed

A couple of years ago German outfit E-Wolf revealed an odd lightweight electric single-seater with 150hp and a kerb weight of 500kg.
Set for an unveil in 2012, the new car gets one electric motor per driven wheel (that's two at the rear) for a total of 375bhp and 590lb ft of torque.

If that wasn't ambitious enough, E-Wolf also revealed plans (along with rendered pictures) for an all-electric supercar that looked a little like a Ferrari Enzo.
Well that car, now known as the Alpha-2, now has a spec sheet, and even a launch date, to add to those Photoshop images.
E-Wolf claims that the Alpha-2 is therefore good for a 0-62mph sprint of 3.9secs, a top speed of 143mph, and a 186-mile range. If you fancy the sound of it, E-Wolf will want €245,000 (£217k) from you, and order books open 'shortly'.

It appears as though all the dreamers who have rendered an image of a car recently have plans these days to turn their design into an amazingly performing production electric vehicle that will cost several hundreds of thousands and have better range and performance than anything else can hope to achieve

To fund innovation and technology development?I'm sure the 99% of people that could not afford the first steam and combustion engine had similar thoughts to yourself all those years ago... now that technology has reached it's peak, you can't sit still and not develop future products.

Is this whole electric car thing just a blind alley ?
I am sure we all have devices with Li batteries.
They seem fine when they are brand new, be it camcorder,cordless home phone laptop etc.
However after a year or two battery life between charging dwindles down until you just cannot trust it anymore to do what you bought it for, batteries are so expensive as well.
I believe the battery life on a Prius, a hybrid is 8 years if you are lucky then a new set of batteries is in excess of £4000. In all honesty just how practical is it owning a battery only car? Alternative fuels and extracting energy from sources which ultimately all come from the sun, excellent bring it on.. but the storage of enough electrical power for cars used in the real world, still as far away as ever ?
