maximum 150 pounds, but to be honest I would love the response saying for 80 pounds this is ideal...

You have loads of choice in that price range.

I am going to start with the suggestion that you should rule out anything with a nitro engine, there will be lots of opinions on different models smile

It also has to be electric as the neighbours would be complaining...

I wouldn't go for 1/18th tbh, Stick to 1/10th and you'll have more options, and the ability to drive in longer grass. Unfortunately you're going to struggle to get anything brushless in that price range, and remember to add a battery and charger to the price.

There is a simple answer to your question.

Get a Mardave Mini.

Well within your budget, simple to build, simple to maintain and very very robust.

Your son will have lots of fun.

I didn't even know they were still around, i used to race those at a local club many moons ago..

something that is capable of atleast negotiating short grass would be a better idea IMO.

cloud9 Mmmm...

But in all seriousness;

http://www.modelsport.co.uk/losi-desert-truck-rtr-...

Expensive compared with the other (also very good I'm sure) Losi model suggested here, but this one is 1/10th scale so will be about half as tall as your 6 year old, which I'm sure he will love!
