Features from previous cars you want back...

I've just been thinking how much I miss the fact that my Saxo had an Oil temperature gauge. Just having that extra bit of information about my engine was great.

I'd have a go at retro fitting one but can't imagine being able to pull off an OEM look..

Has anyone managed to do that? Missing a feature so much that you have to get it fitted to your current motor? Post pics if you have

Stero stalk controls.. Not like current stalks in whcih you could control a full Nuclear submarine with, just had volume and track select on the wiper stalk. Easy to reach your finger out to change. Not that its difficult using the actual headunit, I just liked the stalk change.

Heated front screen a la Ford Focus - I'm amazed that whilst ford have been including this feature on many models going back to the Sierra - there aren't many even high end alternatives which include this! VW for example - not even on the options list.

Currently driving a Prelude and wondering why this never caught on. As you said, parking a car that size is so easy it's unbelieveable. Then there's the 3-point-turn, which I haven't done in a while, the turning circle is so tight I can usually manage to turn the car in the road in one and finally the stability at higher speeds makes the car feel so much more stable making lane changes or maneuvers. In the life of the car it's never gone wrong, the technology is already there so there's got to be a good reason why it hasn't caught on?

The new Laguna with 4 wheel steering is a beast. Hides speed like nothing else, handles really very well and is actually good fun.

because ford patented it. no other manufacturer can do it IIRC

not much of an issue, get gtechniq G1 on your front windscreen. ice comes off very easily with a jug of lukewarm water.......melts, water runs off the screen so no more re-freezing

Gone from Skoda Octavia Elegance (£19K car) to Saab 9-3 Aero (£28K car) and there is nowhere to put my sunglasses. Octavia had a roof bin that held two pairs.

Also, on most modern cars the handle would have to go in the wheel arch somewhere. I like the idea though!

The method of bonding the heating elements into the screen was invented by Ford and is subject to patents. Presumably other manufactures aren't willing to stump up the licence fees for the technology or Ford are limiting it's use as a marketing advantage.

Not sure it quickclear screens were ever fitted to Volvos, Jaguars or Land Rovers, companies which at one point were all part of Ford.

My X-Type has one, which was built under Ford ownership. Don't know if Jag still sell cars with them.
