Hi

Has anyone fitted a MS14 (Act performance manifold with dual high flow cats ) ?

I am considering purchasing and installing this product and Tim has provided me with some helpful advice, but I would also like to understand some practical views. I am confident of the build quality given ACT & JP involvement.

1) The MS14 manifolds have dual high flow cats – I assume this reduces exhaust back pressure , will this degrade the existing torque curve as I am led to believe that on the RV8 this considered a benefit to high torque figures ?

2) IS the MS14 system any louder than the standard TVR system (I already have the pre-cats removed) ?

3) Was the system difficult to fit ?

4) Has anyone recorded or noticed any improvements/weakness after using the system ?

Many thanks

Hi Adrian

I've got the ACT manifolds and the ACT Cherry Bomb system on my car and I am very happy with them.

I do my own work on the car and I have to say they are considerably easier to work on than the standard manifolds. No ratchet straps to try and get the whole thing to fit up and I can actually get them on and off without getting under the car if I need to. As they are seperate units you can work on one side without disturbing the other.

Although my car is a pre-cat swapping out the cats would be a doddle. 10 17mm bolts from memory.

Performance wise I've never had any complaints and the sound. cloud9

Mine look a little dirty these days, but they do clean up nicely. I've always been tempted to get them coated. May speak to Tim about that.....

If you're in doubt about the sound

Feel free to drop me a line if you want.

I have a set of these on my car.

They fitted fine, but I did need to open a couple of the holes out on the flanges to get all the bolts in, but as the previous post says, they are far easier to fit and work round than the OE manifolds.

I have seen no problem with torque even without the cats at all. 300ftlbs @ 2000RPM and 350ftlbs at 4000RPM. Forget crazy thoughts that back pressure is useful - it isn't - the important thing is to get the pulse tuning right, and the MS14 manifolds get closer to ideal than the OE. That said, one could design a set of manifolds closer to optimal, but such a thing would not be easy to build, fit or maintain!

Noise wise, I found mine to be around 3dB louder than standard. Not difficult to live with.

On the whole, they're an improvement over standard in every respect, but are definitely on the expensive side - sufficiently so for me to question if it's worth it purely as a performance upgrade. I got mine because I was tired of having the OE manifolds welded back together.

Thanks for the views.

I am struggling with the cost of these items , i understand the quality and time that has gone into designing them. (shiny things = £) and that seems reasonable given the costs on other vehicle of similar performance (Evo magazine GT2 titanimum exhuast £8700 !)

It just there are multiple other things that I could spend the money on (new battery, new starter motor, outside car cacoon , ported inlet base , plenum spacer, new alloy radiator).

Decisions, decisions.

Cheers

If you've not got the ACT Smooth Bore induction kit and trumpets, they are well worth a buy. As is the alloy rad. I got my Radtec from ACT recently, along with a few other bits for the cooling system.

Just for comparison, I fancy a new exhaust system for my GSX-R. Less manifolds the exhaust alone is around £900, with manifolds pver double.

Fortunetly , I have got a good few upgrades (excluding a hoover on the front of engine, a bottle of red bull in the boot or Electronic Wizard controlling the sparks and fuel).

The exhaust tuning seems the next logical route for more torque. (I already have smooth bore, red top injectors, Bosch AFM , Stealth Cam, ACT Trumpets, Bosch Coil, Magencor leads, 72 Plenum, MA chip on RR, V8d heads, pre-cats removed).

I am sure something will break anyway so maybe better to have a repair slush fund
