On my way home from Cov through Balsall Common to Knowle yesterday afternoon, I pass that large layby on the LHS of the road. There were two McLaren MP4-12Cs parked up. I thought "I should stop and take a pic because no-one on PH will believe this" but I didn't. Not very PH of me was it?

Anyone else see them? One was orange and blue - can't be certain it was Gulf colours but it must have been "referencing" that scheme. The other was pale blue. I saw the pale blue one near to Shrewley earlier in the day, as I was on my way into work.

I wondered if they had anything to do with Prodrive, as they have taken over control/ownership of the Fen End testing ground, but I thought Prodrive had mothballed it during the economic downturn.

I would have thought they'd more likely be up testing at MIRA. Bit of an odd route from there though.

MIRA's in Leicestershire though - and because I saw the one earlier in the day, they were definitely "around" the area.

Could have been nothing more than a couple of owners out for some fun I suppose. I wish more and more that I'd stopped and taken a pic/asked Qs.

I saw one a few weeks back on the B4100 between Leamington & Gaydon, pulled up in a layby.

Apparently most have the 'blue top' which is actually paint protector until they are sold. See mids spotted thread.

I think these are McLaren dev cars, they're always out and about / spotted regularly. I think McLarean is letting them do the rounds to keep interest up LOL wink

So it is. What a strange path Warwickshire's borders wend.

Drive past there almost daily and it is shared unit also selling R-R's, which there are 5 there already. Probbaly the right location as I always see Bentley's, Ferrari, AM's around Hockley Heath.

I believe that they test at the Prodrive facility at Fen End and also the gearbox has something to do with Ricardo engineering in Leamington Spa, so there have been development cars floating around the area for 18 months or so.

The cars you are seeing now are production cars with blue tape on them to protect vulnerable areas of the paint during an extended shakedown run.

There's no light blue on the color chart and McLaren aren't building any two-toned ones either.
