MK1 Eunos/MX 5

Hi, I have recently aquired a Westfield using MX 5 engine/box/prop/diff/brakes.

I'm going to give it a full service, and would like to know what coolant etc to use in it, do Mazda have a specific type?

Also, it is based on an imported Eunos apparently. Can I tell by engine number etc as to the origin of it? Are there any identifiers for the diff between LSD and normal?

Its a 1.6 engine, what tuning can be done to it, or is it better to move up to a 1.8?

Any info would be much appreciated.

standard coolant - best to stick to whichever type is in there, it's probably the green/blue stuff.

as for the engine, nothing wrong with the 1.6, it's a bit keener and revvier than the 1.8 so probably suits the car more as for power gains, you can't do an awful lot with them unless you want to start porting the intakes and doing head work, unless you want to attach a turbo...

As for power. On the 1.6's can you advance the timing? I've heard it livens the engines up brilliantly. But someone with more knowledge will be along shortly.

14 degrees or something.

yep 14 deg base idle instead of 10 is pretty standard which gives you a little more power without problems.
