t. They had the opportunity to do something really fun/great and they made a real hash of it. As for the result well i am not convinced the macca isnt the fastest otherwise why would they have been claiming it is?
It seems to me that he didnt know how to set the car up for a quick lap as iirc macca have at various points stated you can disable the driver aids i believe.

I actually enjoyed that, nice to see some cars doing some laps in the same conditions. The 458 did well to stay in front of the GT2, given it was on the super sports not the cup tyres.
Has to be said tho, as much as I like / respect Ben Collins he should have stayed voiceless. He doesn't have much TV charisma.

Mee too. I'd also thought with the trick braking system the Mclaren has - would be second.Were the Ferrari boys there the day before setting it up for the track with a choice of tyres and a remapped engine (as per usual?).
Fair enougth. 458 > 12c on this track. Maybe with Lewis
at the wheel of the 12c on the top gear track, he'd make up the difference between the 2. After all Mclaren did anounce that the 12c is great in dealing with slow corners.After getting trounced by the competition the 12c has slipped down my lottery car list.

And the Lamborghini? The 997 and Lamborghini are old designs that are due to be replaced and even the Ferrari has been around for a while now.
Every group test in the media is resulting in some straw clutching about the 12C. If the Top Gear test says the 12C is the better car does that mean we all have to take Clarkson's words as the ultimate truth?

I'm not defending the McLaren, in fact I'd probably have every other car on test other than the R8 over the MP4-12C, I'm just saying a few seconds can easily be won or lost in a tyre and we don't know what rubber the 12c is on.
That said, McLaren aren't stupid.
Interesting, if TC really is not switchable on the McLaren, I wonder how many people will consider it a 'deal-breaker'. I'm sure many potential customers will want to drive at track days in full control of the car.
I thought the video wasn't bad, although less music and more engine sound would have been better.

I know we're mentioning 'cut slicks' but these are the tyres the cars, at least in the GT2's case - not sure about the Fez, come with stock from the factory.
Maybe McLaren need to spec their entry comparatively - you can't blame the Porsche's performance on 'special' tyres when they are stock items.

Well I suppose you sort of could if the Porsche was only available with cut slicks and the McLaren was available with either road focused tyres or cut slicks. Mind you if that was the case, I don't think Mclaren would have been stupid enough to put the press car on the slower tyre.
I'd also be interested to know what tyres the R8 was on. I'm quite impressed by how close it got to the more expensive cars anyway; if that was on ordinary road tyres, it's even more impressive.

And if you look very carefully in the driver's manual - on about page 86, written in very small letters - you'll even find that there's a way to turn all the electronics off
