Why has nobody done this exhaust mod on a Griff?
Discussion
I have seen a modification on many yank cars where they have a cut off that cuts out the middle or rear silencers and therfore makes the car sound like a nascar! Or you can have the cut backs closed and the exhaust runs it's normal route through all silencers and sounds normal. These systems are sometimes manual and sometimes electric operating. Why has no one done this on a Griff? It would be awesome, quiet on the track, or motorway and noisy as hell when you want to wake the dead!!!
Drag racing a (US)street legal car aside, it's a gimmick. When at Griff stage you've passed the Halford's bolt on boutique nonsense by some maturity, if that's where you started. Sadly some have! Griff's don't need to be pretentious. They left the factory as a lightweight plastic tub with an awful lot of power for what is a very very traditional British two seat sports car.

judging by the OP's profile I guess this was genuine question from a genuine petrolhead...In aswer to OP: you could fit a pressure operated bypass valve as on a Jag XKR.
Understand you'dd want the full monty whenever possible but sometimes circuit laws leave us little choice. You could however also opt for the additional trackday silencers...
So does the jag pressure bypass valve operate on exhaust gas back pressure? If you floor it you get the full monty. No, i'm not interested in Halfords specials, But yes, i do track days and sprints where the db limit is normally 98 or 105. Could fit an ACT y piece (would this make much difference to the sound? The precats were removed years ago.
'town and country' exhausts were deemed suitable by Mr Rolls and Mr Royce back at the start of the 20th century.
Back then cars had a little lever to muffle the exhaust when entering an urban environment.
There are a lot of modern exhaust companies that do them now as upgrades as well as manufacturers doing it as standard.
As far as I am aware it was never about performance but started out being about civility and now is about fun.
Milltek and Magnaflow spring to mind.
Not convinced it would work on something like the Griff which is not a Barry wagon like the others

I did look into this as I quite fancied a cabin switchable bi-modal exhaust similar to that fitted to the VXR8.
I managed to find the company that supplied the cut out valves for Vauxhall:

Decided against it in the end. If I used mine as a daily I would most certainly consider it but seeing as mine is purely a toy I want it loud when I take it out. If I want quiet and civilised I wont take the Griff.

I had a QTP (electronic cutouts) for my ChimZ06 but they were to big to squeeze underneath so sold em on. It still sounded like a Nascar - none of this quitening for knobbing about on track days
