Waited 6 weeks for mine, and that was after phoning and ranting at them.

All becuase THEY wanted to renew it witha new photo when i moved house.

Turned up a day before i went on holiday, and all they had done was renew the photo instead of doing that and changing my address.

So yep, they are fking useless s.

From recent experience, it takes just over 11 months. However, they did manage to find the time to send me a letter that said I was still allowed to drive even though my license was not valid.
When I finally got my license I discovered that I have had several categories of entitlement removed, this is still ongoing.

Only took 3 days to send me a new tax disc though.

I sent my licence to get the picture renewed, a v5 and proof of sale to a trader in the same envelope. Licence arrived within a week, new v5 a week after that. Still waiting for the proof of sale, what's the bet they'll claim they never got it?


Still waiting for my court date regarding the v5 i supposedly never sent them two years ago.

I got my renewed license back after my photo expired within 10 days.

I was shocked.

They even sent back a cheque for £20 as I had overpayed - I also had to change my address and it clearly states that its £20 to change a photo and a further £20 to change an address.

Got my new licence back to day - did it all online end of last week. For various reasons my address has changed many times in the last 2 years (4 times since I started my current job!) and every time I've changed the address, I've had it back within a week or two. So in my experience, not all bad really - just to try and provide some balance to the argument.

Once i tried to apply for a new V5 for a car which i had bought in Belfast and brough over with the intention of using it for parts. I sent the DVLA a £25 postal order (or whatever the exact cost was) for the new V5 in order for me to declare the car scrapped. I got a letter saying that because the car was classed as being exported that they couldnt issue me a V5 (or some crap like that).

That wasn't really a problem, obviously there was a legitimate reason for denying my request and besides i didn't need to drive my car. But what really fked me off was the fact they kept my postal order and i never saw my £25 again!

I'm sure statistically more people will be happy with the DVLA than not, but they must be the most incompetant government organisation.

I got mine within 5 working days I used the post office service where they take the photo, electronic signature etc I have to say I was impressed, it must just be a period where they have a bit of a backlog, it is also the holiday period don't forget.

After changing the address on my log book a couple of years ago DVLA somehow managed to revert it back to the previous address. I only noticed when the tax reminders started going back to the previous address.

Well lets see how long mine takes!

Its been 10 yrs from my last photo - so got a letter asking me to update mine. On the letter there is a web address and I logged in to find they have a handy online service that allows me to use my passport photo (assuming thats been renewed recently).

This is an efficiency I had never heard of and I am actually quite impressed with it.

Mind you - I wish I had heard of it before I plugged in £5 to a photo booth but hey ...

Apparantly I will get my new license in 2/3 weeks and I get to keep mine in the interim (which is handy).

I've said this before, and I'll say it again.

Over the last thirty odd years, in and out of the motor trade, I have personally processed, and have seen admin departments process, countless thousands and thousands of DVLA transactions, as well as dozens and dozens of my own private transactions. Never, ever a problem. Everything always comes back correct, and within a reasonable time. Both with the DVLA, and at the PO counter too.

VED, V5's, cherished transfers, change of details etc, the lot. Same with any verbal communication with the DVLA, always good.

I have time and time again, been in the local DVLA office, seen people queuing up, and they are turned away at the desk because they've got something wrong, or missing, or incomplete. Usually, they've got something simple wrong too, and foreseeable. They amend it, and queue up again. And it goes on and on.

I don't know what you lot are getting wrong, but from the rants on PH, problems with the DVLA are probably because you're writing loose for lose, and break for brake. I'd be sending your paperwork back marked try again too.

I'm still waiting for mine after two weeks. Everything filled in and double checked. I'm hoping to get it back soon as my insurance company has asked for photocopies of them.

I'm acktyoelly very mettickuoloss about spelling, especially when sending forms to the DVLA, I'd be surprised if the minimum-wage welshys could even spell DVLA.
