Just re-read the report from Canada and Koyayashi's name kept cropping up with regard to him and damage to other Cars in the race, much more than anybody else. Yep even Button and Hamilton weren't mentioned that much. He also seems to defend to the point he is looking like another Trulli. Now it could be just this race given it's characteristics just meant his "style" didn't work so well in his dealings with other drivers. But it's worth keeping an eye on in future races.

I'd say he was further from a Trulli than any other driver.

KK: An inspiring, attacking racer that can bring his car home higher than he qualified it. I don't recall any decent Trulli passes in the last 15 years, even though I'm a big fan of his single lap pace.

I'd rather watch Hamilton and KKK race than any other driver.

I agree with this.

Trulli - A driver known mostly for single lap quali pace, but generally poor race pace. Often known as the 'trulli train' during a race as he holds up many of the cars he outqualified, certainly not known for race charges or passing. Also a bit of a moaner.

KK - Mostly known for his banzai overtaking and getting a car to places it perhaps shouldn't be in races. Often known for charging through the field, not scared to try and overtake the 'big boys'. Seems a nice guy and have never seen him moan about anything.

Opposites imo.

I'm a big fan of Kob, and am eager to see what he can do in a front running team. Would be superb viewing, I think.

It would be great to see him on the podium, but there will be less of his fantastic overtaking if he is already at the front of the field.

KK damaging other cars? AFAIK, he only damaged Heidfeld's car, and that was after Heidfeld ran into the back of him.

And a few others if you read the Autosport report. He also became a Mobile chicane and not for the first time either.

I'll concede He has got more race speed than Trulli, (thankfully), but his tactics in the race leave him vulnerable and his defensive "moves" seem to cause others problems.

Sauber is looking surprisingly useful in Kobayashi's hands, I'm hoping for an unusually high finish from him sooner or later- when he is on it he really gets the job done, when he's off he's straight into the scenery. Bit of an all or nothing type (like Hamilton) IMO, which is a good thing for the sport.

This coincided with DRS deployment and a dry line. There are points in races this year where every driver has pace trouble, the Mercedes especially struggles, even Hamilton plummeted down the field in China before his recovery.

As well as being hit by Heidfeld, Kamui was also spun around by Petrov.

He is not a Trulli; he is actually a decent driver.

the myth here is obvious, right?

If you are a very good qualifier, it is likely that you will qualify ahead of cars that are quicker than yours. Therefore come race day, you will (especially if the rules don't allow overtaking) be holding a lot of people up and ultimately in the race, you will go backwards.

the same is true of mark webber - when driving for mid field teams he often only went backwards in the races because he was (still is?? I'm not sure) very good in qualifying.

Nope sorry, totally disagree. I think that whilst the Autosport report of his involvement in damage to other vehicles is entirely accurate from a factual point of view, to be using it to help to try and pigeonhole him as another Trulli I think is extremely out of context.

Trulli has done nothing in his entire career to suggest he has the raw pace to out perform not just what his own car is capable of, but also what the cars of his competitors are capable of too. KK was on it from the first race he was in the Toyota and has extracted more from the Sauber than he has any business doing and overtaken faster cars as well. His race craft has improved immensely this year too. He didn't shine at Canada no, but very few of his peers did either.

Trulli won at Monaco and I will take nothing away from that. The fact simply remains that even with one of the best cars on the grid that year Trulli did nothing else other than go backwards thereafter, resorting to blame game too.

KK has shown he has the potential to win in spite of not having the best car on the grid (note I didn't say he could win in the Sauber). Trulli failed to win, other than once, despite having.

And as for the LH vs KKK race…. F1 Wacky Races or what?!

And Trulli is bleating here about his steering on the Lotus.

Amusing part is that he says he has been used to fighting all his career for podiums and wins. Was this before F1?

I'd much rather see Kobayashi in a decent car than the over-hyped Di Resta, and he's nothing like Trulli. The best thing about Kobayashi is that he goes for it, but he also concedes space to other drivers who are attacking him, the best kind of racer imho.
Controversial.

I think you'll find that Di Resta has a very impressive pedigree in other formulae. He seems to have fitted right in to F1 and seems to consistently be one step ahead of his (highly regarded by some) much more experienced team-mate, Sutil.

Why do you consider him to be over-hyped?

I would have thought that Trulli would be a perfect 4th driver for Le Mans. Put him in the car in qually then feign injury for the race.

Remember when Kobayashi turned up in the Toyota and everybody was shocked by the fact that the Toyota was actually a racing car and not a rebodied Auris?
