Freelander with 60k miles mad to swap for an A4 with 100k?

Quick bit of advice please for my girlfriend.
She drives a 2004 Freelander TD4 Sport 2 owners 60k miles full history etc problem is she bloody hates it, the build quality is shocking and it's also gold!
Yesterday she went to a garage and had a look at a 2002 Audi A4 Avant SE 2.5tdi Black Tiptronic in mint condition albeit with 100k miles.

To my amazement the garage has offered her a straight swap. 12 month warranty, new mot etc. I cannot decide if this is a good deal for her to swap a lower, newer car for an older higer mileage one?

What do you chaps think?

Freelander is a hopeless drive but there's good demand for TD4 models. Easy private sale IMO.

One thing is certain - a 10 year old Audi on 100,000 isn't worth much in terms of hard cash.

But the swap is quick and easy....

Personally I think she should be looking for something a lot more modern if she's going to change cras.

Despite the hatred/indifference to the Freelander on PH, they're always a good seller. Yours is the makeover spec with reasonable mileage and the most desirable engine. You'll have little trouble finding it a new owner so don't feel as though you have to give it away.

Interesting, the Audi is up a 6.5k could she really get more than that for a private sale? It's a good looing car with 18" wheels, black leather etc but the colour Gold!

I appreciate they're a dealer, and it's a diesel, but there's no chance i'd pay that for a 9 year old diesel A4.

I know what you mean, but she wants out of the Freelander and it seems an easy route. I suppose it really depends if the Freelander would sell easily privately due to being gold

The Audi is about £3k overpriced based on where others on Autotrader are. A third party warranty is a few hundred notes if that is a deal breaker.

That fella must buy retail cars to resell, have huge overheads, or massive margins in stock. Paying those prices I would want manufacturer backed warranty from a shiny main dealer.

If it's an A4 you're after go with the 1.9 model. Fuel consumption is a lot less, performance not that much worse, cheaper to buy and less likely to break.

Looks quite nice in gold if you ask me. Got the best wheels on it too. Needs to lose the horrible red stickers mind.

Freelander looks smart, facelift and TD4 is very desirable, I would hold onto it until the snow starts again and some numpty will pay top dollar for it just so they can get their little darlings to school.

A4 is a reasonable spec but the 1.9 is more desirable than the 2.5, and I hope theres £2k cash in the glovebox at that price!

Make sure she has a proper test drive in anything she is considering buying as it might just shock her how good the FL is and she just doesn't really like the colour. That Sport model of the FL drives really well and the BMW engine is good - maybe a remap would renew her affection for it?

Thats a good shout if its the performance she finds annoying. The TD4 responds quite well to a remap.
